Why is it so hard for me to separate Pinocchio and Garfield?

I watched Garfield 1&2 a few days after reading Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio and at every stage of these movies, I kept seeing Pinocchio in it. I wonder if any one else has noted this and what you think of the comparison.
