Martha (marthais) No examples, as beauty is entirely subjective (and in the eye of the beholder etc.). Don't forget to post a [picture of the cover!

Discussion prompts
- What did you / will you read for this task? What did you think?
- Tell us why you think your cover is beautiful - what do you like about it?
- Are you drawn in by an attractive cover? Is it enough to convince you to buy a book?
- With the growth of ebooks and audio books, how important do you think cover art is?

Martha (marthais) For this task I read Rebecca

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

I needed a character with X in their name, and found that Rebecca had a character named Maxim de Winter. I'd heard that Rebecca was a classic I had to read, but it was when I looked it up on Amazon that I saw the cover and the decision was made! I really love the whole black & gold 1920s style - it reminds me of the poster for the Great Gatsby film which has a similar style. Gorgeous!

It was an absolutely cracking book, a "classic" but a really accessible one with a great story, so it certainly wasn't just the cover that sold the book in the end.

I definitely buy books based on their covers. If it had a boring cover I would be less likely to buy it, even if I liked the description of the book. It adds to the whole pleasure of it!

I think cover art is still really important, it's part of what makes bookshops so exciting. To be fair, you'll still see an image of the cover when purchasing an audio or e-book, but it is a shame that you don't then have that on display when you're reading it. But hey - I can always get round that by buying pretty Kindle covers :D
