I've been looking for a book I read on christmas mystery/crime/detective story about 15 years ago. I'm sure this book is published before 2000 or around early in 2000 at least. Not sure if it's a novella, one of short story collections or a standalone novel.
So here's the plot: People gather up in a luxurious mansion or hotel for some kind of christmas(maybe not christmas? or maybe yes?) celebration. Then a young girl goes missing in the beginning or so, and like in the title, people try real hard to find her but fail until the very last part of the story, even after the murderer gets caught and his or her tricks revealed.
At the very end of the story, they finally find the girl's dead body underneath(or inside?) the big christmas tree in the hall, disguised as a big size doll. and people have been with her corpse throughout the whole story, not realizing it was her.
I've googled, googled and googled but always failed to find out. So I've found some possible candidates such as...
- A Corpse Under the Christmas Tree by Fran Rizer, but this one's published in 2013.
- Murder For Christmas by Francis Duncan, but then a man gets killed, not a girl..
- and so on but still no clue!
The biggest point of this book was the trace of the girl. Her whereabouts are revealed right before the story actually ends.
Please help me find out this "mystery" road to find the missing book! Thank you for reading!
