Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey People, I came up with this topic cause I thought, what kind of topic could really get members talking about all types of stuff that revolves around great books and comics, our imagination and wondering what might happen "if" something happened instead of what did or what if these characters looked like this instead of this or what if this author wrote this story instead of this author? Wow, the possibilities huh!!

Now, as to what brought this idea to my attention :) My family and I sat down the other night to watch an old movie that I have not seen in a really long time, and it's one I really enjoyed growing up. This little film was about a funny little alien that hooked up with this kid because he was getting him hooked on a drug called...Reeses Pieces. All kinds of crazy stuff followed. The little beer chugging, cross dressing, techie nerd, finger glowing extra terrestrial finally went home at the end. So my mind remembered a something Spielberg said at some point, how if he made E.T. now, it wouldn't be the same alien movie that he made then. Which is why he came out with The War of the Worlds film. However, I thought, what if he did do another E.T. film? Not a remake but a sequel, one where we learn more about that species, and where they live. What would their planet look like? Why did they visit earth to begin with? And if they returned, would they all be as kind as the one my generation grew to love. Would a sequel make us fear the glowing red finger? He could make it so Elliot could feel everything he felt and make him mimic his movements, so what abilities might others of his kind possess?

Above is just and idea of what I am thinking for this topic. Keep in mind when discussing stuff that we might want to be careful not to give spoilers away...which I may have but hope most of our members have seen E.T. by now...if not sorry and still see it cause it's pretty awesome :)

Hope everyone has a blast in here :)

This is a great idea!!! I love this! If they made a sequel to E.T., I think it would be a great idea if they got to explore his home planet and meet some of his friends or family. Maybe they could also explain more about how he ended up on earth in the first place. Maybe he was on a secret mission that went sideways. It would be interesting to see what the other aliens' reactions were when he arrived home. Were they happy to see him, or scared because he had explored "unexplored" territory? Did everyone believe him and his stories when he returned? Maybe they could also explore the idea of him having a family of his own, and them coming to visit the main human character again when he is an adult.

Love the movie, would love to see a sequel!

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Wow, you got some great ideas on this film as well :) This is totally the idea of this thread. Now if we could only get Steven Spielberg to join in to this conversation. I imagine a sequel to E.T. would be a bit more violent and creepier if he was to do it. I can only imagine what a dark E.T. would be like.

So what other things about this film would we want to explore? Or is there another movie we can explore along with this one...hey what if E.T. had an appearance in Holes? How might that have changed events in that film? Which character do you think E.T. would have connected with the quickest?

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey do you think that E.T. was only short/swat because of the gravitational pull on earth? Did Reeses Pieces give him diarrhea and they cut that scene out? And what would E.T. sound like after sucking on helium or might it kill him? Hmmm

Ok new character. Popeye, If he wasn't a sailor man, what other career would he be good at? If he could have any other tattoo other than an anchor, as a sailor man, what would be a cool one? And if he was drawn by today's artists, what might he look like? What if Disney took over the rights and made a new Popeye animated film?

I think that Popeye would have been great in the military. He was a tough character with strong opinions. In honor of the 4th of July, I think that if he would have had any other tattoo, it might have been a United States of American flag. That would be so cool if Disney came out with a new animated film. I think it would also be cool if they came out with a dramatic, live action version of the story that would be intense and different from the cartoon. Sort of like the way they make movies like the new Tarzan and The Jungle Book.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Wow, I am totally a punk for not getting in here to read your response to this. You have some great direction with this idea as well. Could you imagine if they did an animated Pirates of the Caribbean type film. Kind of the reversal in a way since they are always going from cartoon to live action. Anyway, imagine if they did that what the story might be like since it would be aimed at a little younger of an audience. Could it be done and heck if Disney owned Popeye, would they give him a cameo? I do like the tattoo idea...he could possibly join G.I.Joe after that and hang with Gung Ho :) As for Jungle Book...I did see it's out on DVD and I really wanted to see that one :)

Ok got another "what if" for you. Thought of it at work last night and kind made me laugh out loud thinking about it a bit. And just a heads up, I am a bit sick since I am a haunter. The idea was...instead of the kee kee kee ll ma ma ma and spooky music that Jason goes by in Friday the 13th, what if some crazy Benny Hill music was playing while he killed people? And he would have to move a lot faster to do it. An would Kevin Bacon be as easy a target if he was a bit more Foot Loose in the first Friday the 13th movie? :)
