Jennifer Pope (jenjunum) | 902 comments There's an author event tomorrow for a book I want to read but haven't yet. I haven't read anything by him before. Should I go? Is it odd to go? The book is Imagine me Gone and the author is Adam Haslett.

I have a weekly activity I'd have to change and my husband would have to get home a little early so it's not super convenient. And it's about 25 min away but I have an acquaintance who might be interested in going.

Tien (tiensblurb) | 1641 comments I go to author events where I haven't read their books. It's still fun to go & it'll either convince you to get onto them asap or not at all. It's not at all weird!

Though if it's not convenient, I wouldn't bother... I'd only go for those length of its an author I really want to meet. On the other hand, I don't know who Adam Haslett is... maybe someone else can tell you whether it's worth going to those length to meet him.

I go to a fair number of author events, often when I haven't read anything by the author. It's still fun! I'm not sure I'd jump through a lot of hoops to do it though . . .but I am sure you will enjoy it if you end up going.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8434 comments I also attend author events when I haven't read the book yet ... always interesting, and frequently convinces me to add the book to my tbr (and/or to buy it).

Yes, GO .... but I wouldn't jump through lots of hoops unless it was for an author I really wanted to meet / hear / see.

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) I go to author events all the time for books I haven't read, especially if the book is on my TBR. It's so much fun to go just to hear them speak. (I also might have a slight obsession with collecting signed books.)

Jennifer Pope (jenjunum) | 902 comments Thanks for the opinions. I didn't end up going last night just because of all the other things going on but I'm going to make a point to find another one to go to soon.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments I have some friends that go to a lot of author events --- sometimes I go with them and always enjoy myself. I think I should do this more often, but it's hard to prioritize all the stuff I like to do and get work done too.
