SOLVED. Maroon cover looked like a diary [s]

Around 1990 I found a book at a yard sale that looked like a diary, maroon cover, I think with a girl's face in a circle on the cover like a cameo. My mother confiscated it and I've been wondering about what the book was ever since! I believe it would've been adult fiction or possibly romance.

Was it hardcover or paperback? Was the girl facing out, or in profile? Was the cameo the only image on the cover?

I should have known this, my husband has this book! Depending how old you were it might be for the best that your mom took this away from you. :)
