But I have a book that Goodreads thinks has 5 ratings and 6 reviews, but I can only see 5 of each. Anyone know why goodreads math is wrong?

It is possible to review without rating and also to rate without leaving a review. What you're seeing is just a mixed bag, not funny math :)
Five of each could mean that the other was just posted.....it takes a while to show up, I noticed that with my books
Yes it is possible to do both. You can write a review without rating a book or you can rate a book without reviewing it (on goodreads that is. It's not the same for Amazon.)
Sometimes it takes a little bit before it shows and you see what has been posted. Sometimes it's just GR having glitches. :/
Every so often, our numbers glitch too, so add that to the pile of possible answers. Oh, and if someone flags a review, it can become visible to only their friends. Your best bet is wait a day or two. Ni matter which it is, it will sort itself out. ;)
Try pressing the "all" filter. It might be that the author has a private page and doesn't want the review to be widely seen, but you can still view it this way.
As people have indicated, this is pretty common. I see it happen lot with our reviews and ratings, and it sorts itself out in 24 hrs or so. As mentioned, using each specific filter can show ratings that haven't yet appeared, and sorting by "most recent" once popped up a review that otherwise was not showing up.
