It came to me as a surprise that Tyrion confesses his desire for Sansa. I really thought he was in love with Shae. Maybe the way they presented it in the show gave me the wrong impression.

And to top it all Tywin makes it a point to show it to Tyrion.. Such a cruel dad!

Someone refresh my memory please. Where did it come from and why do people have valarian steel swords? Is there 5 of them or something? Thanks.

I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, but I know that they are super rare. Only a few of the great houses have them. I think they are made in ways that are lost to current man, but they originated in the land of Valyria (where the dragons came from).
