Hi looking for easy-to-follow plot books with a few characters

I have a friend with early Alzheimer's who loves to go to the library. She can follow an easy plot with a few characters. She's already read Nicholas Sparks and Nicholas Evans; any suggestions for similar authors appreciated. Thank you.

Just contemporary romance or other genres such as mystery, travel, art, biography, etc.? Perhaps books with illustrations?

I think she likes mostly feel good books with happy endings. Illustrations not necessary.
