Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments What book about the Tudors or Tudor England would you like to read in June?

Two nominations to a person, please.

Can't remember what we've already read as a group? (I can't always remember, either.) There's a shelf for "group reads" at the group bookshelf.

Michael I nominate Charles Brandon 'The King's Man' By Sarah Bryson

Janet Wertman | 20 comments Ooh - I nominate Sandra Vasoli's Je Anne Boleyn. The sequel is coming out at the end of May (the 19th...) so if people love it they won't have to wait!

Elizabeth | 15 comments The Marriage Game A Novel of Queen Elizabeth I by Alison Weir
I nominate "The Marriage Game" by Alison Weir, about Elizabeth I and the love of her life, Robert Dudley. Weir tends to be one of the more credible historical fiction novelists writing today.

The book has not been released yet. I think we should save it for a few months.

Elizabeth | 15 comments I would like to nominate Dark Aemilia A Novel of Shakespeare's Dark Lady by Sally O'Reilly Dark Aemilia: A Novel of Shakespeare's Dark Lady
Amelia Bassano Lanier is widely considered to be the enigmatic “dark lady” mentioned in Shakespeare’s sonnets. And some believe that she may have written some of the plays attributed to Shakespeare.

I think it is a no no to nominate a book you have written.

It's out the end of this month, but these nominations are for June. Since it's an Alison Weir, it should have been ordered by a good number of libraries, too.

So I think this nomination is still OK.

Having read all of Andersen's alternative history books in this series, I think people might be confused if they don't read the three novels that come before The Virgin's Daughter. I know it's listed as the first book in a separate trilogy but a lot of the events of the first book are pretty directly linked to the events of the previous trilogy.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments We read the first volume of those three novels (The Boleyn King) as a group. If the second trilogy is connected to the first, I think it might be easier if The Boleyn Deceit were nominated instead.

Does that mean my nomination for The Virgin's Daughter won't go through? I have read the other three which is why I nominated it.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments How linked to the earlier series is it? Will it make sense read alone?

message 22: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh (ashleighbailey) | 8 comments Susanna - Censored by GoodReads wrote: "How linked to the earlier series is it? Will it make sense read alone?"

Maybe the link is the 'how' Elizabeth becomes Queen but it tells you that in the synopsis of the book. Seems like this series extends from The Boleyn Trilogy 3-Book Bundle: The Boleyn King, The Boleyn Deceit, The Boleyn Reckoning But I am not entirely sure.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments It sounds that it gives you enough setup at the start, so I think I will allow this.

message 24: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Vasoli | 2 comments I nominate Jane the Quene by Janet Wertman. This is a book really worht reading ! Fun and informative - and unique!!!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments I will make a couple of nominations myself - Legacy, by Susan Kay, and Alison Weir's The Six Wives of Henry VIII.

I'll close nominations and open a poll later this afternoon.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Alright, the poll is now open, on the front page of the group, or here: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1... .

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Current leader: Charles Brandon: The King's Man, by one vote over Legacy. The polls are still open, though!
