Nanci | 78 comments I just finished Three Wishes. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
It was an uplifting book that was laugh out loud in parts. Just the break I needed from my more serious books. Angela, your book sounds really good! Ready for something more serious minded again.

message 259: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments I finished :

- Magician Apprentice (The Riftwar Saga, #1) by Raymond E. Feist Magician: Apprentice (book #1 of the riftwar saga). I had a few issues with the book that I'm sure will be solved in the next book. I found the story to be very original compared to all the fantasy books I've read lately. 4 ★

- Killing Floor (Jack Reacher, #1) by Lee Child Killing Floor. I loved this thriller. I'm sure I will read more Jack Reacher's novels.
4 ★

And I started Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3) by Sarah J. Maas Heir of Fire. I'm almost half way through and I have to say it's by far the best in the series. Looking forward to discussing it as a group next month.

I'm currently reading Staked Staked (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #8) by Kevin Hearne . I think it's a good book, but I may have run my course with the series. It's difficult to explain...the story seems interesting, but I'm just not that engaged. I know it's not the writing, as that hasn't changed and I've generally really enjoyed the series. Maybe my taste has changed a bit recently. Or maybe I'm just not in the mood for it...

message 263: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 78 comments I'm currently reading Glory over Everything Beyond The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom . This is the follow up to Kathleen Grissom's first book The Kitchen House. Kathleen is my new favorite writer. She chatted with my RL book group and lives not too far from us. She's very nice and such a great writer! I'm really happy for her success!

message 264: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments @Nanci: I really liked the kitchen house so I will definitely look into this one. Thanks for the recommendation

message 266: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Poynter (rachiesue) | 62 comments Currently reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling and feeling very nostalgic.

I'm also listening to The Martian by Andy Weir for a book club this month. So far I'm not impressed with this. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not jiving with the narrator but I'm half way through and so far it's been a struggle.

Rachel - I found The Martian to be a bit of a struggle as well.

message 268: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments Kristie, you were listening to it too, right?
Maybe it's a book you should read and not listen to?!

message 269: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 6820 comments Mod
I thought that too, Savanes. I might have liked it better if I could have skimmed some parts. I found myself forgetting to listen at times because my mind would wander from the story. The narrator did an excellent job though and I do know people that loved the audio. I think for me it just didn't work with that particular story.

message 270: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 78 comments After you read the book, I suggest the movie. I watched it on the plane on my trip and thought it was really well done.

message 276: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 1033 comments I just finished The Lake House and though it was very descriptive and I liked the story, I struggled with it. Had to do a lot of going back and rereading to remind myself what was going on. 3 stars

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) A June Review I forgot to post; The Shortest Way Home by Juliette Fay

I agree Kristie, Imfind I have to have a long break in between. And the premise is starting to wear thin.

thewanderingjew - Looks like you've been reading a lot! Thanks for linking your reviews, but when you post could you add a few lines about the books in addition to the links? This thread has some new guidelines, so that we can all see your thoughts in one thread.

Nanci | 78 comments I think it was someone on this thread who recommended The One and Only Ivan. If it was you, let me know! I just picked it up from the library. I'm saving it to start in a few days once we get into the Bingo part of Wobble, as it's got such a great cover!

Do you mean in addition to the link to my review? Rate and I review all the books I read.
I do read a lot and listen a lot. I take long walks and listen, listen in the car, too. I read hard copies generally at night, unless I win a book, then I attack that first.

I don't recommend this book unless you want to learn about the life of the author! Everything else in the book is pretty much old news.

That's great. I love to listen to books too. I haven't had enough time recently to listen as much as I'd like to. I mostly listen when driving. I find that I struggle with listening while doing many activities. Walking is good for listening...I should be doing more of that.

Yes, in addition to the link, we'd appreciate a few words about what you thought. The first post in this thread explains:

"New thread, new guidelines

We'd like this new thread to see a bit more discussion about the books we are reading, rather than just posting the book link (and the occasional link to a review). The comments should include:

- Books you just started or are currently reading. You might want to add a few words about the book to let other members know whether you like it or not so far.
- Books you just finished, Please include your rating (1-5 stars) and a few words about the book (even if it's something as short as "I loved it / hated it.") If you wrote a full review, you can share the link to it but please include a short summary of your thoughts alongside it. "

Angela M I finished The Risen. 4 stars . My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... This was the first book I have read by Ron Rash and definitely won't be my last . It's a compelling story of two brothers and what happen 46 years ago in the summer of 1969.

message 299: by B the BookAddict (new)
