I'm in Chapter 6 - quite an exciting battle. I liked the description of the boats scary travel to the city.

Maybe my favorite part of this section so far is the discussion of poets and warriors.

We get some further ties to Alfred's daughter, and...well that's it for now - going to keep listening!

Ok so the sermon about women...I LOVED Uthred's comments on that, and his later comments about not wanting to go to heaven to live with the saints. What a great character.

I just finished this section. I love how Uthred told off everyone about the King's daughter. Only now her idiot husband got her captured...

Cousin Aethelred is a coward and a swine.

Always late, always dawdling, always managing to make a mess of every task he's given.

And his friend who keeps giving him advice and who hit Aethelflaed in the church needs his throat cut in a dark alley by Finnan.

I still don't understand why he continues to take her on these campaigns. I get that he is jealous but can't someone put him in his place? Alfred?

I think Alfred feels he needs Aethelred too much politically to put him in his place.

I guess but c'mon, it's his own daughter! Although with him looking the other way concerning the marital violence, I guess it shouldn't surprise me.
