Steve Rainwater (steevithak) | 12 comments H. G. Wells published a serial called "When the Sleeper Wakes" in 1898/1899. Those serials were collected and published together in book form under the same title. In 1910, Wells took the material used to create the serial and rewrote it to form a novel, titled, "The Sleeper Awakes". There are plot and text differences between the two but they do contain a similar story with similar characters. Both titles are still in print today. For example on Amazon:

When the Sleeper Wakes
http://www.amazon.com/dp/1522906177/

The Sleeper Awakes
http://www.amazon.com/dp/1481951157/

My question is, should Goodreads consider these as two distinct books or as one? At present they seem to be merged together as one book.

In general, revised books are combined with the original. This seems similar.
