The time has come - let's chat about the April book!

I'm going to change things up this time - what do YOU want to discuss about the selection this month? Any parts that you thought were interesting or any questions you hoped we all would answer?

Who did you relate with the most in this book?

Jeniece Goellner I really enjoyed this one. It had a good mixture of snark and heart and was perfect for those of us who never really fit in to the so-called "normal" high school popular crowd. While I defiantly saw aspects of myself in Scarlett, Avery was probably the character I related to the most. Bookwormy and there for her friend, but not afraid to call her out in a nice way that doesn't always get picked up on.

Guess a question I would have for fellow readers is has anyone else ever had a experience like Scarlett did when it comes to getting the stereotypical "dumb" beautiful girl thrown out the window? I personally did with a wonderful woman who is now my married to my cousin. When I first met her was convinced I would never get along with the gorgeous blonde woman who seemed like she just got everything because of daddy's money, connections, and her looks. But the more I got to know her, I realized how wrong I was. I never have been both ashamed for how I judged her but also so glad to have been wrong. Because now me and her are good friends and she is one of my favorite people in the world. I learned the lesson Scarlett did in a very real way. Made the book even more relatable for me.

Veronica (veronica_mitchell) I just finished this one tonight and I have to be honest, I wasn't for sure how I would feel about the book for the first few chapters. I am so used to reading books that have action pretty quickly and I just felt like it took too long for something to happen in this book. However, once Scarlett started writing her fanfic I was hooked! The characters felt realistic to me. If I had to choose a character I most related to it would have to be Avery as well.

Aisha (aisha_i) | 7 comments Just finished reading this last night. I think the character I most related (well my high school self at least) to was Avery. I was never, as Loup said, "so jaded" at Scarlett's age. She was hard to like at times because she was just so negative all he time. She dwelled on not fitting in instead of just being happy with the person she was. Also, I love the town I grew up in.
What was hard for me to read was Scarlett's parents. I felt like Scarlett was really just on her own.

Brandi | 13 comments I really enjoyed following Scarlett's story. I'm not sure that I really identified with any of the main characters that much but I guess the closest would be Avery. Great read!

Jessica For me, this book was a bit of a miss. I think I just didn't relate to any of the characters. I wasn't really like any of the characters in high school and it was also so long ago that high school contemporaries are not my thing anymore. I was never into fanfic, I was just into books, so that part of the story I just didn't really get. Overall I gave the book 3 stars, because it was written well and definitely got into the mind of a high schooler. It just wasn't the book for me.

Brenda (bookishbren) | 13 comments Just finished this book not so long ago and I really enjoyed it. I was a bit nervous to give this book a try especially when I got to Scarlett's story, but surprisingly I really enjoyed the actual story and her story as well. I relate to different aspects of Avery and Scarlett but oh my this was such a great read.
