Fred Higgins | 3 comments Audio book listened to in 2010. As grandmother lay dying the narrator loses track of time and the clock spins wildly (as it does in those trying times). The grandmother sees herself on a hot, dry parched road and is very thirsty, but remembers vivid Appalachian women of her past. The narrator remembers visiting or meeting these women. Each chapter is titled like "The Wind Woman" or "The Caring Woman"

It is a melancholy book of remembrances of Appalachian women who lived on wind swept mountains or in lonely mountain cabins or had some simple, extraordinary talent. Beautiful stories intermixed with the death and loss of a loved one.

Did it seem like a new or an old book at the time?

Fred Higgins | 3 comments Thank you for your inquiry! I would say it was probably written in the 1960-1980 period.
