Shawn Murray | 6 comments Has anyone else been "inspired" to read the series again since we have all this talk & news about the movie coming out?

Shawn Murray | 6 comments Oh & btw I'm on re-read #10 or 12, I re-read every year at winter time when nights are long & there's nothing better to do, ha!

Shawn Murray | 6 comments Also, do you listen to music while you read this? Complete silence? Do you ever have a feeling of Deja's-vu when you hear those songs again? How about envisioning the new cast as the characters? It's an aspect of the novel that we all bring our own imaginations into the story as we read, even if there are illustrations. Any thoughts on these aspects?
This series continues to get richer every time I read it, does that happen for anyone else?

sasha gorham | 8 comments I am just starting the series. Never read it when it came out because I thought it might not be something I'd like, I even tried the first one once years ago, but couldnt get into it. But I'v heard it explains the other books, and I want to know. There are enough books in the series I'm curious now. Plus... movie coming.

Terri Edwards (teresaluvsbooks) | 149 comments I just finished the series a few months ago. Not ready for a reread, but will be reading the "connecting" novels associated with it, with the exception of The Talisman and Black House. Tried reading The Talisman a month ago, and even got halfway through it, but just couldn't get into it. I did read it when it was first published and remember loving it, but this time around...meh. I think it's the fact that it's not "pure" King.

Andy Davidson (theandydavidson) I'm about ready to re-read it myself. I was in grad school when it finished up in the early 2000s and haven't revisited it since. I hear they're structuring the movies very differently from the books. Which kind of fits with the whole revision/resumption angle.

Shawn Murray | 6 comments I'm on book 7 which is always a chore after about half, with the ka-tet in its state, I have a hard time moving on, always have.

I re-read every year, I know it's coming, but I just can't figure out how to keep taking the steps. I do, but it's hard.

That said, I still read it every year & I still feel my heart wrench from the events. Must say something about its pull on me.

I'm not exactly looking forward to the movie/s. I'm sure they're gonna "hollywoodize" it & im not sure how to feel about that.

Books that are extremely popular are that way for a reason ( it's a certain combination of things that make that happen) ( did you know that there are several books dealing with magic that involve a boy named Harry? that didn't make it big!) then comes along a director/producer that decides that what is written on the page (that makes it so good) isn't good enough for their movie so they change it to make it "better"
I'm afraid of what this specific screenwriter & director will see as "not relevant/not good enough" to make their movie & I cringe.

I'm glad I'll have the books for eternity. They will always be there waiting for me to decide to take the journey.
