Bobby Owen seems to be an interesting character and certainly seems to be on the ball when looking over the murder scene. Once again a will and its beneficiaries seem to be highly relevant to the case.
Finished it and definitely enjoyed it.I didn't like the older partner in the law firm at all but wasn't sure what he had done, got a bit confused over his trip to Paris and the papers that were stolen.
Looking forward to reading more and seeing how the character of Bobby Owen develops.
I like all the hints and blind alleys that have been thrown out! (I read this very quickly and was very pleased that I guess the killer)
There are some really obnoxious characters in this book, but I am enjoying it. The death of the victim was okay and the fact that there are some questions about mysterious strangers around adds to the atmosphere, but this strange will and the marriage which had already taken place are supposed to heighten the mystery -- we'll see. Good story so far.
Just finished this. Loved it. Guessed the murderer but didn't know why, so very pleased it was all spelt out at the end. I did think the relationship between Bobby and Mitchell was well done. It was what I expected it to be, due to the different ranks. A friendship between them would have been unbelievable at that time.
Glad you enjoyed this, Jill. I mainly remember the relationship between Bobby and Mitchell now rather than the mystery plot - I don't think I guessed the murderer! I definitely want to go on to read more by Punshon soon.
A word of warning about Punshon - I've noticed that books 2 and 3 are listed the wrong way round at Goodreads and on some other sites. Death Among the Sunbathers is actually the second book, but because it was printed the same year as the third book, Crossword Mystery, they seem to automatically go into alphabetical order and end up the wrong way round!
I thought I'd try to correct the order at Goodreads this morning, but I see someone has done so overnight! Many thanks to the librarian who has done so.
Seems I spoke too soon - just looked again, to work out where the latest Kindle freebie fits in the series, and they are still in the wrong order. Apologies for any confusion caused.
