Milez | 2 comments Alright the version of the book that i read went by the name "shackled up" however after i tried doing some research to find the book again, i remembered that the book was originally published in the UK and that it goes by a different name over there. I can not remember the author's name so i can't google her to see what the name of the book was over there. What i do know is that the main protagonist was a college student living somewhere in the UK who majored in art. His name was Rich I'm sure. He had some problems with his father which caused him to have to move into an apartment (or "flat" as it's called in the book ) that was owned by some old friends of his. However, after a couple of days of living in there by himself he was told by one of his friends that he would have to be sharing his flat with someone else for awhile. The roommate was a girl that he had known for awhile. It was explained in this book that in the book before this one the girl had caused some problems with him before. Pretty much the girl's mom is kinda insane and was guilt tripping her to try and stay with her for the rest of her life, and that the girl had realized that her mom was trying to hold her down and that the only way out of this situation was for her to run away from home. Naturally, living together became a problem for the two, as Rich never saw the girl as anything romantic and he really felt like he just needed some space to himself since he had only left his parents house recently after being kicked out by his father, and was hoping to be on his own for awhile. Through the book we find the person that Rich actually likes is a girl named Portia who has been mad at him because of the incident concerning him laughing at her when she started trying to tease him sexually. He didn't mean to do this however, his laughter was just an awkward response to a situation that he wasn't expecting. However he later loses his virginity to her, and he begins to become more of a cool guy now that he's no longer a virgin. At some point Rich realizes that Portia has been cheating and using him throughout their entire relationship, and decides to end the relationship. Afterwards, he starts developing feelings for his roommate, but becomes disheartened when he realizes that she's planning to move out very soon. A good time period passes before he sees this girl again, and when he meets her he finally asks her to start dating him. She's very reluctant to do this however, because in the first book she revealed that she liked him and he rejected her the first time around.
The book cover for the version i read had a description of the title on it. It basically explained that shackled up was a slang for "being held up against one's will" or something like that. Also the back of the book had pictures of the first book and the upcoming sequel for it. The book was published in the 2000-2015 era so i know its still very young.
Please help me find this book again it would really mean a lot to me to read through it again, and read the sequel!
Thanks in advance.

Emma Bailey | 105 comments You were so close! The English term is 'shacked up' meaning you are living together.

I think you're talking about Shacked Up by Kate Cann
