This is the one where I got confused about what happens with a fruit bum. I don't remember if there was ever an answer, though - only that a fruit bum is not what I thought and does not have to do with murder by apples in orifices.
There was an answer: that a fruit bum is a transient farm worker, not a method of murdering someone. But the pickax answer -- while so close it makes you boiling hot -- is a BZZT!

DING DING DING! Absolutely CORRECT! The fruit bums were killed with a machete, by either Juan Corona or his brother Natividad.
Shorty Shea was killed with an axe and Darwin Scott with a butcher knife, by the Mansons.
Pickaxes were the weapons of choice in the deaths of Jerry and Deborah. Their killers were Karla Faye Tucker and her stoned friends.
