James Morcan | 11378 comments The Carlyle Group, a US-based multinational private equity firm, are said to be behind many nefarious activities around the world.

Wiki mentions this:

Carlyle has been profiled in two notable documentaries: Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 and William Karel's The World According to Bush.

In Fahrenheit 9/11, Moore makes nine allegations concerning the Carlyle Group.[92] Moore focused on Carlyle's connections with George H. W. Bush and his Secretary of State James Baker, both of whom had at times served as advisers to the firm. The movie quotes author Dan Briody, who claimed that the Carlyle Group "gained" from the September 11 attacks because it owned United Defense, a military contractor, although the firm’s $11 billion Crusader artillery rocket system developed for the United States Army is one of the few weapons systems cancelled by the Bush administration.[18] A Carlyle spokesman noted in 2003 that its 7% interest in defense industries was far less than several other Private equity firms.[93] Carlyle also has provided detail on its links with the Bin Laden family, specifically the relatively minor investments by an estranged half brother.

In The World According to Bush, William Karel interviewed Frank Carlucci to discuss the presence of Shafiq bin Laden, Osama bin Laden's estranged brother, at Carlyle's annual investor conference while the September 11 attacks were occurring.

The Iron Triangle: Inside the Secret World of the Carlyle Group by Dan Briody might be worth a read on this subject:

A penetrating look at the company at the nexus of big business, government, and defense The Carlyle Group is one of the largest private equity firms in the world with over $13 billion in funds. Carlyle's investments include everything from defense contractors to telecommunications and aerospace companies. But there is more to this company than meets the eye. Carlyle's executives include heavyweights from the worlds of business and politics, such as former secretary of defense and CIA deputy director Frank Carlucci, former secretary of state James Baker III, former President George Bush, former UK Prime Minister John Major, and former chairman of the SEC Arthur Levitt. Osama Bin Laden's estranged family was personally invested in the group until recently. In The Iron Triangle, journalist Dan Briody examines a company at the nexus of big business, government, and defense that, according to some sources, epitomizes corporate cronyism, conflicts of interest, and war profiteering. This fascinating examination leads readers into a w orld that few can imagine-full of clandestine meetings, quid pro quo deals, bitter ironies, and pettyjealousies. And the cast of characters includes some of the most powerful men in the world. Strap in, because this ride could get a little bumpy.

Dan Briody (New York, NY) is an award-winning business journalist whose Red Herring article "Carlyle's Way" broke the story on the inner workings of the Carlyle Group. Briody has appeared on numerous radio and television programs covering the Carlyle Group and has become a primary source for other journalists covering this story. Briody's articles have appeared in Forbes, Red Herring, and the Industry Standard.

Martin Hill (martinroyhill) | 125 comments If I remember correctly, James, Bush senior was chairman of Carlyle's board of directors up to the time sonny-boy invaded Iraq. He was asked to step down to avoid the "appearance" of a conflict of interest.

BTW, the novel I'm currently writing now involves a firm inspired by the Carlyle Group.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) I'm against cartels.

'Ingram Publishing' is a little disturbing to me. One company in charge of so much publishing?
Dislike.

and then, in conjunction with things like 'content farms'

Ugh.

Maybe I should mention that literacy vs digital publishing is one of my hobby-horses. It is.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Private, individual ownership of books and grassroots publishing is the only sure hedge against tyranny. It makes me chortle to hear clueless modern buffoons praising the information age provided by the inter'net. Yeah r i i i i i ght. What good is information you can't trust and which can be shut down or controlled at any time?

Anatomy of a Scam

Who needs a theory when you have a conspiracy called Carlyle Group?

As a prototypical Bush Cabal slush fund scam, the Carlyle Group has gained notoriety because of its name brand directors, members, and advisors - all celebrity politicians, former government officials and sundry unindicted criminal co-conspirators.

James Morcan | 11378 comments The Bin Ladens and the Bushes: On 9/11 George Herbert W. Bush Meets Osama’s Brother Shafiq bin Laden https://www.globalresearch.ca/the-bin...

What is presented below is a factual account. Confirmed by the Washington Post, “fellow investors” of the Carlyle Group including Osama’s brother Shafiq bin Laden and Dubya’s dad former President George H. W. Bush met in the plush surroundings of New York’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel on September 10-11, 2001. Their business encounter under the auspices of the Carlyle Group was unfortunately interrupted on September 11 by the 9/11 attacks.

It didn’t help that as the World Trade Center burned on Sept. 11, 2001, the news interrupted a Carlyle business conference at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel here attended by a brother of Osama bin Laden [Shafiq bin Laden]. Former president Bush [senior], a fellow investor, had been with him at the conference the previous day. (Greg Schneider, Pairing the Powerful With the Rich, Washington Post, March 16, 2003)
