Sidavy (avvy101) | 1 comments If your book was being made into a movie, who would star as your characters or what would they have to look like?

message 2: by R. (new)

R. Billing (r_billing) | 228 comments The perfect Jane would have been Wendy Padbury, about 45 years ago. Today I'd really like to see Amanda Holden in the part. I also want Whoopi Goldberg as the voice and face of the supercomputer "Auntie" (Arcturian UNified Tactical Information Equipment).

The chief spaceship designer would have to be Penelope Keith- who else could carry off solving the most extreme tech problems while surrounded by collie dogs?

I've always thought that if anything I write gets made into a movie, I'd want the parts to go to unknown actors.

The book I'm working on now... I could see John Corbett playing the part of John Brooks. But, the rest of the main cast... I just browsed some photos of actors and actresses in their twenties and they're all too Hollywood and pretty to be Dallas Worth and Janelle Hills. I would need someone who looks like they've struggled a bit in life, someone who already looks time worn in their mid-twenties.

And Austin Worth... there is not Hollywood actor alive that could play Austin correctly, I am sure.

message 4: by Ben (new)

Ben Mariner For the Apocalypse Wow series, I've always seen Jack as Alex Solowitz. For the precious few of you that remember MTV's boy band spoof movie 2Gether, he was Mickey Park. Barry and Mike I'd like to see as James Roday and Dule Hill respectively. They're absolutely hilarious in Psych, and I think they'd be an amazing supporting cast.

Since the series is so 90's-centric, I'd like to cast the other parts with people that were huge in the 90's but aren't so popular anymore. Like Johnathan Taylor Thomas, Andrew Keegan, Jaleel White, or Larisa Oleynik.

That would just be a lot of fun.

message 5: by Joe (last edited Apr 21, 2016 09:49AM) (new)

Joe Jackson (shoelessauthor) Most of my characters aren't human, so what they look like is almost irrelevant. For my main character, Kari, I'd probably go with Zoe Saldana for the athleticism and her incredible emoting.

I'd envisioned another of my characters as being built like Michael Clarke Duncan, RIP.

Maymunah Azad | 60 comments I'm sad enough that I made an entire little clip about it on youtube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MQLk...

The characters are mostly kids, the actors are all adults and just so everyone knows, ALL of them have been in Power Rangers at some point ;)

J.D. Cunegan (jdcunegan) | 240 comments Just so happens I recently wrote a blog post about this (and, on the off-chance my book did become a Netflix series... thanks to some baffoonery at ABC, the actress I want for the lead would actually be available...)

I really want someone exceptionally famous to play a very minor bit role, just so I can make the characters joke that the person they just met must be important later on in the story because they were played by SoAndSo, and SoAndSo does not play bit parts!

message 9: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Loofbourrow (pattyloof) | 19 comments I picture Jacqui as a young Kate Winslet (think Titanic) - although with darker skin - and Tony as a young Wes Bentley (think American Beauty)

Tom Hiddleston would make a terrifying Roy Spadros. Gina Torres as Ma (although it's a bit part for an actress of her caliber) and David Caruso as Charles Hart is as far as I've gotten.

message 10: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Kittens. All of my characters played by kittens in little paper hats with piano music and silent movie placards narrating what should be happening, but obviously isn't happening because kittens gonna kitten.

Or, ya know, a whole bunch of breakout actors with the one aging A-lister as a supporting role to bring the name recognition. The worst part of this plan is realizing that Brad Pitt is an aging A-lister...

Sounds like you'd be a fan of a few Asylum films I know. XD It's always fun to see some major actors pop in for bit roles & cameos.

Hmmm. But as for my own books...I don't really know. Most of the actors I know are older, and my book casts tend to be in their 20's to 30's. Finding some unknown actors would definitely be fun.

Mandy Moore might be nice though for Jolie in my latest novella, though. Her role as Mara in Tron: Uprising has that same tough-girl, I-can-handle-myself-just-fine, meddling best friend part down. Plus, she'd probably rock a baseball uniform.

message 12: by Chad (new)

Chad Descoteaux Superman: the movie did that in 1978, where the leads were played by unknowns and then Marlon Brando had a small part as Jor-El.

Asylum films are about as hilarious as they come! I love how random the cameos are.

I want my movie to be like that... except... not as terrible.

message 14: by Roxanne (new)

Roxanne Bland (roxanne2) | 103 comments I'm going to assume the actors can be living or dead. I'd like Charlton Heston to play Parker, the werewolf. Clara Bow as Garrett, the mage. Peter O'Toole as Kurt, the vampire. And Tamara Dobson as Melera, the alien. This could be fun.

message 15: by Steve (last edited Apr 21, 2016 10:46PM) (new)

Steve Harrison (stormingtime) | 52 comments I'm currently thinking Tom Hiddleston as my male lead, but I can't think of any current actor as the villain. Clancy Brown would have been perfect some years ago, so someone like him would be great.

I've also been looking for a very strong Australian female actor and think the best candidate at the moment is Elizabeth Debicki.

If you are speaking to any of them, please ask them to PM me :)

message 16: by T.L. (new)

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Well, in True's Love my main yummy guy is supposed to look like Brad Pitt. But funnily enough I don't think I want the man himself to play Mikhail. It wold just be someone who looks a bit like him. And I'd insist on being part of the casting/auditions ;)

Like others, I'd like mostly non famous people.
Afterall, I'm an indie writer, so I want to support the equivalent in actors.
But yes, a big name or two would be necessary to attract the viewing public.

It's a real shame, as Alan Rickman would have been my first choice for a minor role.

message 17: by J.J. (new)

J.J. Mainor As long as they don't cast some generic underwear model and rewrite the story so the guys are unnecessarily shirtless or the gals unnecessarily sporting skimpy underwear.

message 18: by Chad (last edited Apr 22, 2016 07:15AM) (new)

Chad Descoteaux The Inter-Terrestrial

Asa Butterfield and Zachary Quinto in green makeup and bug eyes as Bloxnor (young and older)
Chloe Grace Moretz and Olivia Wilde as tough but sweet Becky McGee
The new Peter Parker actor and Jake Gyllenhaal as lovable nerd Joey MacKenzie
Some good CGI and David Warner as Venusian plant man Dr. Rute Seedman

As long as they cast some generic underwear model and rewrite nothing so the guys are unnecessarily shirtless or the gals unnecessarily sporting skimpy underwear.

message 20: by Zoltán (new)

Zoltán (witchhunter) | 267 comments I have three names for now.

The MC, the Witchhunter would definitely be Viggo Mortensen.
For Scarlet, I'd choose the original Uma Thurman. (She's undergoing some morphing treatment lately.)
The third where I have a name is Segmet and I would cast Saorise Ronan. The role is tougher than her usual ones, but she is capable enough.

Have ideas for others as well, but none so strong.

M. Ray Holloway Jr. (mrayhollowayjr) | 180 comments In "The Empath", I imagined Holly Hunter as Ann Harrison, but James.... he would be a difficult one for me to cast. There was a male character in the Continuum TV show who had the look, and might actually fit the part pretty well. His name was Richard Harmon.

message 22: by Rachael (last edited Apr 23, 2016 01:05AM) (new)

Rachael Eyre (rachaeleyre) | 194 comments Sean Bean's probably a bit old to be Alfred now, so maybe Hugh Jackman? Chris Pine looks right for Josh but not sure if he could pull it off. For some reason I've always pictured Leo di Caprio as Nick - he can play crazy well.

As for everyone else, they can be talented unknowns. You get fed up with the same old gallery of Brit character actors.

Okay I admit it. I really have thought about it. The only one I know for sure is that I want Hippolyta, the Amazonian, feminist, lesbian, easy to anger/be offended, massively chested warrior woman to be Gwendoline Christie.

If you read this Gwendoline, you would be perfect!

That looked pretty cool. I don't even know what it's about and I want to see it, lol.

message 27: by Angelmovingonup (new)

Angelmovingonup Wjesus | 33 comments I have already imagined my entire cast if my book were to be made into a movie. They would all have to have a special kind of chemistry though so it would probably change once the roles became filled. But my leading roles would have to go to Jennifer Freeman as Cassidy, The Rock as Tim, Stephen Curry as TJ, Jensen Atwood as Bradley, Joy Bryant as Andy, and Rihanna as Yvette. That would be and amazing cast to start with.

What? really? that's amazing.

message 29: by Jane (last edited Apr 23, 2016 03:27AM) (new)

Jane Jago | 888 comments That's one to think about. One of my heroes is a seven-foot-tall Norse warrior who is also damnably handsome. CGI for him I guess.

I'd really like the young Elizabeth Taylor to play Rosamunde in The Barefoot Runners, and maybe Sean Connery in his Bond years for Rafe.

I reckon, though, that one of the attractions about writing fsntasy is that you can make your characters impossibly beautiful or impossibly ugly...

J.J. Mainor C.B. wrote: "Rachael wrote: "Sean Bean's probably a bit old to be Alfred now..."

That was the biggest twist of the movie adaptation of The Martian to find Sean Bean's character survived.

...oops, sorry to spoil it. :D

Rachael Eyre (rachaeleyre) | 194 comments He's about the only person to survive in the Silent Hill movie as well.

message 33: by Julie (new)

Julie Round | 41 comments If my new book, A Lesson for the Teacher, was made into a movie, which should be easy as it is written with each part in the first person, I'd like to use unknown actors, but I would like them to stick to my descriptions. Most of my characters look like actors who are now dead, the baddie looks like Elvis and the goodie looks like Jimmy Stewart!

Thank you! It's basically about five children (the first five) who save the world, plus their friends. Jason David Frank played the bad guy ;)

I did it on iMovie; that app is totally awesome!

message 36: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 57 comments I'd pick any of my favorite stage actors; ie Ramin Karimloo or Lea Salonga. A male character named Edmund I created I picture being played by Aidan Turner or James Norton.

Like the cartoon Viking. However Jorg Thunderhand is MUCH handsomer. He's wet your panties gorgeous. And a bit stupid.

message 38: by Vincent (new)

Vincent Morrone (vincentmorrone) | 18 comments I can tell you without a doubt that one of the secondary characters in my Vision series, Varick McKnight, would be played by Eric Braeden who plays Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless. That's my wife's soap opera and he's who I always pictured when I write that character.

message 39: by Rosie (new)

Rosie B I have absolutely no idea who should play my main character, but as for one of her friends, I envision a high-school aged Alfred Enoch. There's a girl in the story I've been picturing as Katie Leung, and another girl who looks like a young Anne Dudek. Also, my main character's brother reminds me strongly of the character Rory from Doctor Who, even though I don't think they look the same.

Donald Glover as Kevin "Dookie" Harris
Owen Wilson as Ronnie Spice
Richard Ayoade as Hasheeb Brown
Jonah Hill as Donald Spice
