Stacey Jeffreys (staceyjeffreys) | 1 comments Hi there! My name is Stacey. I live in rural Michigan. I am the proud mother of two donkeys, two goats, three dogs, one cat and a varying number of bunnies. I love to read but sadly haven't always had the time. For the New Year, I am making reading a top priority. I need the escape. I prefer fantasy, science fiction, paranormal romance, young adult and urban fantasy but ultimately will read almost anything put in front of me (I'm looking at you, shampoo bottle!). I look forward to finding new books and authors to love from all of you.

message 953: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Ross | 6 comments Hi all! My name is Johanna and I am from Western New York (i.e. the rural, farm country part of NY- not the city). I am 25 years old, the proud mom of 3 adorable kitties and will be getting married in October of this year. I am finishing up a master's degree in Library and Information Science and work as a school librarian. This means that I read a lot of children's and young adult literature, but when not reading for school or work, I like fantasy.
Kate Daniels introduced me to Urban Fantasy and I have not looked back!

Alexandra Engellmann (engellmann) | 15 comments Hi!
I'm Alexandra, 23 years old, Russian. I've been learning English on my own for 12 years, thanks to American rock bands that got me interested. Later I started to read in English and watch movies with subtitles. I'm totally in love with the language, and the fact that I haven't been able to pay for English courses never stood in my way. I write urban fantasy and short stories about pretty much everything and post them for my group of fans on tumblr :)
I also like to draw (wish I had more time for that, though) and create illustrations for my book. Since 16 years old, I've been working in IT, and my full-time job takes most of my time. I hope to change it this year and focus more on writing and drawing) I'm a huge movie geek, I like mountain bike and go on crazy country tours in summer, I go camping with my friends in Caucasus Mountains or on the Black Sea coast, I'm into fitness and I play guitar; but none of this can compare to the happiness I find in writing :)

Elizabeth Armstrong | 13 comments HI,

I’m Liz, avid reader and occasional writer of Urban Fantasy. I’m a big fan of books with strong plots that draw you in, particularly mysteries, and characters that come across as real people not stereotypes. That’s part of the reason I got into writing. There just seems to be a lot of YA and romance focused books out at the moment. Don’t get me wrong some of it’s great but it’s been a few years since I’ve been a teenager and I have a WHOLE different set of problems a preoccupations nowadays. My favourite series would have to be the Dresden files by, the Toby Daye series by Seanan McGuire and The Rivers of London by Ben Aaronavitch. I’m currently ready Mike Carey’s Felix Castor series, which being a Brit I’m finding quite funny.

Cheers and if anyone has any good series recommendations let me know, I running low.

message 956: by Lokki (new)

Lokki (lokki8) | 18 comments Hi. I'm Lokki (rhymes with pokey). I'm relatively new to GR. I was very active on the Chapters/Indigo community for years but it has really changed (mainly due to Chapters not really supporting it any more) and so I decided to try here. I thought I would check out some groups so I could start interacting with the community here and also get new titles to add to my TBR list. I am a voracious reader and would-be author (yeah, I know, who isn't on this site?). I used to try and write a review for everything I read but that started getting in the way of actually reading so now I only write a review when I feel moved to do so. I read mainly UF, PNR, horror, action/thriller, mystery and some romance (usually found on the bargain table). I have an ereader but I'm one of those that prefers the actual book in hand. Looking forward to chatting with you all.

message 957: by Danella (new)

Danella (nellabee) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Danella and I live in Oregon. I love to read (paper and digital) and listen to audio books. My favorite authors are Jim Butcher, Sarah Monette, Patrick Rothfuss, Eoin Colfer and Rob Thurman, to name a few. I read mostly fantasy, though I also like some historical fiction, some horror and anything else that catches my attention. I dislike romance novels and I wish there were more paranormal novels without the romance!
I have been trying to write more reviews in addition to rating the books. It's been a hard habit to start!
Other interests include crafts (from greeting cards to re-purposed whatever), baking (scones!) and walking my amazing mutt.

message 958: by E.J. (new)

E.J. Colwell | 2 comments Hello everyone! My name is Ephraim and I want to first thank you for having formed this group and allowing me in your circle. I am a neuromuscular therapist by day and an author by night. I published my first novel in late August of 2014 called "Chip-N-Nails".

I enjoy both reading as well as writing...one of my favorite authors is Richard Wright. I am also starting to get into Walter Mosley.

What I love most about reading a great book is the ability to disconnect from your reality (if only for a short time) and connect into someone else's reality.

I hope to connect with other reader and find new and exciting stories.

Have a wonder day!!

message 959: by Ahnya (new)

Ahnya I have been a member of this group for a while, but haven't introduced myself. So, I thought I would. Hi, my name is Ahnya, and I live in the US. I love Urban Fantasy, and have been reading it since I was a kid. Someone asked me recently how I got into it, and I had to think back. I think A Wrinkle in Time was my first, and I have been hooked ever since. I read all kinds vamps, fairies, were-creatures..., or combinations. Don't have a favorite book, or even series. It is hard to pick just one.

There now I am official.

Elizabeth | 2 comments Hello my name is Elizabeth and I'm a bookaholic. I'm 28, from South Carolina. I'm engaged, and I'm a K2 teacher. My favorite series would have to be the Real series by Katy Evans. I can't wait for book 6 to come out in October!!! I am New to goodreads. I love to make new friends and see others book recomendations.

message 961: by C.V. (new)

C.V. Larkin | 2 comments Hi everyone,

I'm C.V. and I'm still getting used to conversing and participating here on Goodreads, so please bear with me. :)

Let's see. I live in New England and am currently snowed into my house, thus making this one of my very favorite Mondays. I'm one of those freaks who doesn't mind shoveling and gets giddy at the forecast of a good snowstorm. It's peculiar. I'm aware. It also gives me the perfect excuse to curl up with a few books and my furry canine minions.

I'm a writer and an avid reader. I read everything I can get my grubby mitts on, but urban fantasy and paranormal romance have always had a special place in my heart. The idea of old mythologies in modern places never ceases to capture my imagination. I love getting book recommendations and chatting about the latest stories I've read. I'm looking forward to hearing and interacting with all of you!

message 962: by Nicola (new)

Nicola White | 13 comments Hi everyone! My name is Nicola R. White, and I'm an avid reader and author. I have been a paranormal romance reader for years, and discovered urban fantasy by way of the Sookie Stackhouse books about 5 years ago. Lately I have been obsessed with the Chicagoland Vampires seres!

Ellen Chauvet | 1 comments Hi Everyone,

My name is Ellen Chauvet and I am an author of Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, Erotica. Working on first book in a series. Thank you for allowing me to join the group. Looking forward to being a member and interacting with all of you.

message 964: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Leenart | 1 comments Hi All, I'm Sarah and a huge addict of urban fantasy fiction. I read a lot but I am most satisfied when a book has got a hint of paranormal somewhere in it. Have done ever since I was a kid and Enid Blyton had me hooked with 'The Wishing Chair' :-)

Just lately I am loving Indie authors as they have so much originality to offer and don't follow a formula. There is just so much out there! Haven't really joined a group and been active before so this felt like a good place to be.

message 966: by Ian (new)

Ian Jarvis | 17 comments Hello there
I’m Ian, and this is my brief introduction to the group – brief, so as not to bore anyone who’d rather be reading something more worthwhile – an exciting book being the obvious alternative.
I was born in the north of England, where I worked for three hectic decades as an operational firefighter with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. I recently retired, but rather than sit drooling at a watercolour easel with an ear trumpet and a tartan rug over my knees, I walk quite a bit, usually in the Dales or the North York Moors, and I travel, mostly Asia and the Americas. My interests include natural history with an emphasis on birds, books, American comics, real ale, and ridding the world of all known evils.
I’ve spent the past twenty something years in a village near Selby, Yorkshire, where I write horror, urban fantasy and supernatural thrillers featuring a York-based "white witch". The American company Damnation Books have published the first two of these. Please feel free to check out my website www.ianjarviswriter.com and let me know what you think. Every click of the site “like” button delivers a free chocolate through your letterbox. This is a virtual chocolate, however, and you’ll need to use your imagination to enjoy it.
Take care everyone, keep reading, and live long and prosper.
Ian

Rachel Marks | 2 comments Hello All! I'm Rachel Marks, and I'm horribly addicted to Urban Fantasy (and paranormal, and supernatural, and speculative, and basically if there's creepy things, or if there's like a mystery, or an alien, or even if there's only funny words, I just really like books). ;)

I'm a mommy of four, an artist, and a writer, and I love all things weird and unexplained (especially in books). This looks like a fun group and I'm excited to chat about what everyone's been reading. I was getting addicted to Elizabeth Hunter lately, and of course, Kresley Cole is one of my diva pics for awesome. Off to find the chatty section...

message 970: by Paul (new)

Paul | 1 comments Hello, My name is Paul Pilant. I have recently returned to recreational reading. Most of the reading I usually do is technical in nature and work related, but I had a classmate recommend Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and I have been hooked on the genre ever since. Since I have completed grad school I have plenty of free time again and I am looking forward to reading as much as my free time allows. I have seen many good recommendations for future books in the group already and can't wait to delve in. Thanks!

L.D. Rose (ldrose) | 14 comments Hey everyone!

I'm a doctor by day and author of PNR/UF by night. I love to read almost any type of fiction when I'm not slogging through textbooks and papers. I'm an occasional runner and I drink way too much coffee. I also love red wine and the ocean (I live in RI).

Thanks for having me! :)

Thorsten Weitling (thorstenweitling) | 6 comments Hi there, my name is Thorsten Weitling. I'm from Denmark (small country that it is) and as such have to look out across my nation's borders to sate my UF needs.

My reading usually revolves around fantasy or sci-fi and UF was a niche I hadn't really considered. Then Jim Butcher happened to me, and suddenly I began swallowing UF by the cartloads.

I've come here to find like-minded people, and maybe get the occasional recommendation, when I finish whatever series I am currently reading and need my next fix.

message 974: by Elanor (new)

Elanor | 1 comments Hello!

I'm new to this whole group thing on goodreads, but I'm a long time fantasy reader! I'm looking forward getting to know people and finding fun new (to me) books!

I still have problems figuring out the difference between "urban" and "paranormal" so please forgive me if I misspeak myself. I'm going to blame it on age. (35 is old, right?) ;)

message 975: by George (new)

George Mazurek | 13 comments Hi,
my name is George and I'm a fantasy book fan and writer from Europe. My favorite writers are Zelazny, Sanderson, etc. My urban fantasy The City of Wizards can be found here: www.goodreads.com/book/show/26250568-....
Have a nice day and keep reading ;-)

message 976: by M.S. (new)

M.S. Dobing | 19 comments Greetings everyone! My name's Mike, 36 and from Preston, Lancashire (UK).

By day I'm an IT consultant and by night I'm either head down in a book or cranking out words in my latest novel.

I mainly read anything with a speculative twist, specifically either technology or supernatural based, although to be honest it varies with the seasons! As an example, I'm currently in a David Gemmell binge-reading session after what started out as a research piece on how to write heroic warrior-type characters turned into an addiction for Druss and related stories!

Looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming weeks, months, decades ;-)

Take care,

Mike

message 977: by Jeana (new)

Jeana Budnick | 15 comments Hello everyone! I'm Jeana and I'm from Canada. I've been an avid reader for as long as I can remember. I mostly read Fantasy but have branched into Urban Fantasy and some Paranormal Romance in the last few years.
some of my favorite Urban Fantasy series are Merecedes Thompson by Patricia Briggs, Cal Leandros by Rob Thurman, Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, Greywalker by Kat Richardson, Cassie Palmer by Karen Chance and the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning.
I'm currently reading a more Fantasy series. The Collegium Chronicles by Mercedes Lackey, which is part of the larger Heralds of Valdemar series.

message 978: by Apollo (new)

Apollo | 23 comments Hi Jeana. Nice to meet you. I've been a sporadic reader over the last year trying to finish up writing an urban fantasy novel. But Dresden Files is definitely one of my favorites. I will be trying to get into more during this new year. Thanks for the other author names on your list.

message 979: by Amber (new)

Amber (bookvampirewub) | 8 comments Hi, my name is Amber. I am 29, and I am from the USA. I love to read paranormal, urban fantasy, and a lot more. I would rather read than clean. I am always looking for new book buddies, and friends. One of my favorite series is the Riley Jenson Guardian Novels, by Keri Arthur, and also the Mythos Academy novels, by Jennifer Estep. If you have any questions for me just ask. It is a honor to meet you all, and be a part of this group.

message 980: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Martin (djmartin) | 2 comments Greetings!

I'm generally known as "DJ". Been reading UF for probably almost as long as the genre's been around and started writing it a few years ago. Favorite author has to be Jim Butcher but add in a dash of Jennifer Estep & Maddy Edwards, too.

I live in the mountains of north Georgia with my wonderful husband, crazy cats & numerous woodland creatures. I'll be looking at the threads here for new authors to read while I'm stuck indoors during the winter.

message 981: by La Tiffaney (new)

La Tiffaney Williams (LaTiffaney) | 3 comments I'm glad to see some NW writers here! I'm based in Seattle and I write Urban Fantasy novels, with some aspects of romance of course :)

Can't wait to find out other new books here!

message 982: by J.D. (new)

J.D. Carabella (jdcarabella) | 3 comments Hi - I'm JD. I've barely made a dent in adding my UF books to my GR bookshelves. Someone needs to automate that feature!
I love Butcher, Carey, Kadrey, Briggs, Gaiman, Hamilton, Harrison, Bull, Harris, Green among others.
I watched Highlander, Buffy, Angel, and still love Supernatural.
I read tons of graphic novels including Sandman, Lucifer, Preacher, Hellblazer, Locke & Key, Fable, Saga and others.

I have actually fallen out of the genre a bit, just picking back up on Butchers last 3 books, so not as familiar with the newer writers. Though I'm looking forward to learning about them now.

I write UF/PNR, though a bit more PNR than UF I suppose. I prefer new and unique ideas with a strong supernatural storyline that can stand on its own with or without the romance.

message 983: by Shaitarn (new)

Shaitarn Hello everyone, my actual name is Karen, but Google knows me as Shaitarn so has given me that name here. I live in England - I was born in Croydon but managed to move to the far nicer town of Whitby in North Yorkshire last year. I've been reading fantasy and horror since I was about 12 or 13 and although I suppose epic/high fantasy is still my first love, I have got more into the urban fantasy genre as I've got older.

I love books like Neverwhere, 61 Nails or anything by Charles de Lint and will always take a look at a new vampire/werewolf book!

K.J. Chapman (kjchapman) | 1 comments Hello, I'm KJ Chapman. I'm the author of the science fiction and urban fantasy series, EVO Nation. I'm a wife, mother, writer, blogger, reader- the list can be infinite.

In the last few months, I have begun posting book reviews to my blog: https://kj86chapman.wordpress.com/ I have a keen interest in YA, NA, science fiction, urban fantasy, fantasy, and Paranormal Romance. Although, the right book in any genre can always sway me.

I am beta reading and ARC reviewing whilst juggling home life and my W.I.P (book three in my EVO Nation series), all from the glorious county of Cornwall, England. Yep, I am Cornish with the accent to match.

You can find me anywhere- Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Amazon... Always happy to communicate with fellow writers and readers.

message 987: by R.D. (last edited Mar 25, 2016 10:08PM) (new)

R.D. (rdvallier) Hi. I'm new-ish to Goodreads. :) Urban Fantasy is my favorite genre and I wish I would have realized sites like this existed earlier! I'm 35, married to a traveling nurse, and a mommy to a toddler. We travel all over the place for half the year to save up money, then we work on our off-grid homestead in the Selkirk wilderness for the other half (with limited internet access, unfortunately. :\). We are hoping to be stationary soon, though. The constant traveling is taking its toll.
Outside of that I am a storyteller, a wanderer, a dancer, a writer, a survivalist, and a wilderness lover. I hope to make friends! :)

message 989: by Richard (new)

Richard Knaak (richardknaak) | 4 comments Hello! I've posted here a little, but haven't gotten the chance to do the intro here. Richard A. Knaak, longtime reader and writer of fantasy, including urban fantasy. Although I'm known for my Dragonrealm and my work in Dragonlance and Warcraft, my most recent novel is the first in a new series combining the legend of St. George and the Dragon with Prohibition Chicago. I'll post about that in the Promo Section.

Some of my favorite UF includes GUILTY PLEASURES by Laurell K. Hamilton and the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

Yaz | 13 comments Hi, I'm Yaz. Not new, but trying to reconnect with the groups I've joined and horribly neglected. Love UF and Scifi - some favourite authors are (the usual contenders); Jim Butcher, Ilona Andrews, Kim Harrison.

message 992: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey everybody! Chris here. I'm native to Toronto, Ontario, and huge geek and gaymer. Urban fantasy is just one of my favourite subgenres, but it's the one I tend to spend most of my time in. Terry Brooks' Word & Void trilogy was my first exposure to it, and my collection has grown from there - Neil Gaiman takes the top spot on my list, but he's far from the only one.

I'm a sucker for good world-building and interesting magic systems that try to get away from the standard expectations of the genre, but my tastes are varied. Right now, I'm particularly interested in expanding my list of LGBTQ urban fantasy where the LGBTQ elements of the novel are simply part of the characters, as opposed to a defining conflict in the novel. But a good book is a good book, regardless.

I also do a lot of writing (or try to, at least). My projects tend to be urban fantasy, but I also write cyberpunk, space opera, and some more traditional fantasy.

Outside of books, I do a lot of PC gaming, from Stellaris, to Dark Souls, to the new Doom, Overwatch, etc, and I also do a lot of Pathfinder roleplaying, both as a player and a GM.

I'm an inveterate lurker (a bad habit I'm trying to break), and I look forward to engaging with you guys!

message 993: by Brooke (last edited Jul 04, 2016 09:14AM) (new)

Brooke (brookeluvsbooks) Hi guys im Brooke and I love fantasy of all kinds :) but lately I have been reading mostly urban fantasy. I love shapeshifters but hate vampires unless they are done really rellly well (Ilona Andrews and Patricia Briggs)

message 994: by Treece (new)

Treece (sapphire_roses) | 3 comments Hello, I'm Treece a Midwest native. My current favorite authors for Urban Fantasy are :Jeaniene Frost, Thea Harrison and Nalini Singh, and Ilona Andrews.

The recent authors I've gotten into lately are: Suzanne Wright, Theodora Taylor, Yasmine Galenorn, D.L. McDermott and Linsay J. Pryor.

I prefer quality over quantity, which means if it is an author who doesn't churn out books often and they are writing a series, you end up reading multiple series and become addicted (like me, ha!)

I DESPISE serials of any genre. Why can't you wrap the book or story up and leave room to continue? But cutting things off is a way to make money, not hook a reader like me, and I will often wait until it has all been published under one collection with the price reduced. A lot.

Anything that is paranormal urban fantasy with romance is perfection for me, though it does not have to have romance for me to enjoy it. Good writing, solid characters and a great plot with loads of imagination are sure to win me back. I vibe it all: shape-shifters, angels/demons, vampires, witches, aliens all good stuff if it is done well.

Joseph Sayyed | 4 comments Hello I am a new member and I just learned about this group thing. I am 14 in Illinois. I read for enjoyment a lot and urban fantasy is just the kind of books I read. I will use this group for recommendations.
A top 5 list in a random order that I made up in the top of my head are
beautiful creatures,
project paper doll: rules,
Invisibility,
Struck,
Cut
They are all just a quick list on top of my head they are a lot more I just can not think of them at this moment. I attempted to make them all urban fantasy but the last one is not I had to put it because hands down one of my favorite books ever. I am forgetful but I think I do well in school. And that is a little about me.

message 996: by H.C. (new)

H.C. Cavall (hccavall) | 17 comments Hello, everyone. My (pen) name is H.C. Cavall. I'm a UF writer that stays mostly on the dark/perkygoth side of the fence. I'm also thinking about branching out into steampunk, although I'm lousy with the gears and the ticking and what-have-you. I'm way more comfortable around myths and legends.

Outside of writing, I enjoy foreign languages, mythology, and cats. (So many cats. SO MANY.) As far as reading goes, I'm binging through Gail Carriger's stuff whenever I can, and I have a short list of Lilith Saintcrow books I want to work through. If you haven't read Saintcrow's "Jill Kismet" series yet, it's incredible. It firmly ticked all of my checkboxes, so I can't recommend it enough.

Other than that, I'm looking to add to my ever growing "Want to Read" bookshelf and trying to find time in between book hype binges to interact with human beings. I've always thought it was overrated, but I hear it's good for me. I remain dubious.

message 997: by Rosemary (new)

Rosemary Johns | 4 comments Hi, I'm Rosemary A Johns. I'm an urban fantasy writer and fantasy fanatic. Also a music junkie - I need both my music and my fantasy! I write the Rebel Vampires series (Blood Dragons and Blood Shackles). I also write short stories under the pen name R. A. Johns. I tend to write books, which are also dark romances with a thriller edge. But they're urban fantasy because my anti-hero - and his journey - is always at the heart of each book.

I've loved urban fantasy since I watched Gaiman's Neverwhere. It transformed how I saw the world - and writing. At the moment I'm reading Benedict Jacka - I write about a hidden paranormal London, so I wanted to see Jacka's take on a magic London. He writes about mages and magic shops in an interesting and fun way. I take a decidedly darker route.

Outside my writing, I've run a theatre company, am involved with disability charities and am married to a police officer. My son was the inspiration for the lead character in the Rebel Vampire series, who has a photographic memory because he's an autistic savant: everything he sees he remembers. I wondered what it would be like to live over the centuries and see both glories and horrors and remember it all with the clarity of a photograph.Rosemary A. Johns
