T.N. Traynor | 12 comments Hi, quick intro. My name is Tracy I am 55 and a mother of four grown lads. I have spent 20 years writing and re-writing, editing and re-editing Oracle's Quest and have now (as I am over the hill and racing downwards) decided to self-publish.

Here is one of my latest reviews:
By Ron Burch
This review is from: Oracle's Quest: Oracle's Quest (Born To Be Book 1) (Kindle Edition)

The story put me under a spell that could only be broken by finishing the book. The author has created a world alive with magic but also full of human emotion and longing. Witches and Shape Shifters and Demons battle for supremacy, but underneath all the supernatural intrigue beats the heart of a young boy trying to find himself. I learned enough about magic in these thrilling pages to want to become a magician myself, but that will have to wait for the next book, where the secret may be hidden that will unlock my powers! A fascinating read, thumbs up!

This I hasten to add was not written by either myself or a friend/family member but by someone I have never met.

Here is a link to my book.

For anyone just thinking of self-publishing if you have any questions just fire away, if I can help it would be my pleasure.

Lastly I would like to offer my thanks for those who run this forum, running a group is time consuming and takes dedication, so hats off to you guys.

All the best
Tracy

Hi, Tracy.

I write, too.

Just please remember review swaps are against the terms of service of both Amazon and Goodreads. At a minimum, they can pull the reviews - at a maximum, ban.

Best not to try those.

Other ways of offering books for reviews, joining groups that do reviews (without direct swaps), and meeting people who read what you write, work better.

I know - it seems like such a logical solution. Everyone needs reviews, and reading and reviewing take time, why not trade?

The problem is that even with the best intentions, it is difficult to avoid the appearance of a quid pro quo, even harder if the writer on the other end is much better or worse than you are.

But more importantly, readers who find out won't trust you, and some of them will be very vocal about it (as they should!).

The main bad part about it is that if I review a book by other writers (which I have done), I know now that I should not get reviews from them - which makes me reluctant to review.

Best to leave the reviewing to those with no conflicts of interest: the readers. But it irks a bit because I'm a reader, too.

T.N. Traynor | 12 comments Hi Alicia
Yes I like reading too so it is difficult. This will of course teach me to actually read the T&C's next time :) terrible habit of just clicking accept!
Have you ever thought of using a publicity agent to promote your book? I was looking at it yesterday, I am not sure if this is the way to go. If I don't do something no one will buy my book because they simply won't know about it.
Anyway thanks for the comment, food for thought :)
Tracy
