drbooks | 9 comments What makes you a book addict? Some define book addicts as those who prefer to read over eating, sleeping, and/or hanging with friends. I would like to hear what everyone thinks.

Elle | 4 comments I know I am a book addict because I can spend hours curled up in a chair, drinking coffee and getting lost in a book. I am oblivious to time. This is pure happiness....

4cats (fourcats) | 175 comments I'm an addict because I can't stop buying even though I've got books on the shelf waiting to be read from 30 years ago! I'm an addict because I go to New York on holiday and ship books back to my self! I'm a book addict as I was told to buy a Kindle by my other half to stop me buying physical books as I can't fit anymore in the house, but it hasn't stopped me buying physical books and now I have a Kindle with lots of books waiting to be read. I'm a book addict and I love it : )

message 4: by Lady Grey (new)

Lady Grey | 1 comments I'm definitely a book addict:
I'm nervous when I don't start another book just after finishing one. Even when I'm not reading but doing something else, I like to have the book beside me just to see it. I love the smell of books. It always makes me happy to go to bookstore or library and see so many books together... What else to say :-)

Erin (ems84) I am an addict, I buy books when I still have several to read and I bring a book with me whenever necessary, including to work.

Helle (helleb) | 21 comments Hi, my name is Helle, and I'm a book addict ;)
Most of the telltale signs have been mentioned before, but here's my list:
- I take a book everywhere, including work, pubs and (birthday) parties (you never know: you might have to take a bus back home and then what?)
- I too keep buying books even though there is plenty of unread material in my library at home - which incidentally is my favorite room of my appartment.
- When I go on holiday to English-speaking countries, I bring as much old clothes as possible. These can then be left behind to make room in my luggage for books.
- I have a mug stating "all you need are books and tea", which is a pretty good summary of how I like to spend weekends and evenings at home.
- I cannot pass by a bookshop without entering (although on rare occasions I have walked out again empty-handed).

I have frecuent client cards from two book shops, bags, mugs, and even a jewelry box from one of those book shop because I buy books very frecuently.
I have a huge wishlist in my account of the online shop of my favorite book shop.
Now, with ebooks, I always had a bunch of books with me ;)
I read more than one book at time.
I have many books unread in my house but I keep buying.

I'm a book addict because:

1. Reading is my favorite thing to do. There is nothing that is even close.
2. I cannot leave the house without something to read.
3. I have over 2000 books at home (although I'm slowly whittling it down - I've finally acknowledged ebooks are here to stay).
4. Speaking of ebooks, my greatest fear is that I will be like Burgess Meredith in the Twilight Zone and after an apocalyptic event, I will break my glasses or run out books.
5. When a favorite series ends, I sometimes become literally depressed.
6. I will cry or laugh out loud when reading.
7. If I had to choose between reading and something important, it would have to be a family member or health before I'd give up reading.
8. I started losing my eyesight and I ended up reading with a magnifying glass (my eyesight is back to what it was now).

Or the party may get boring and you can sneak somewhere to read a little (I've done this).

Your response made me laugh! You are truly a book lover!

I keep trying to envision myself throwing out my clothes in order to fill my luggage with books when traveling. That's usually my dilemma with shoes when traveling. You have inspired me to rethink my packing strategy :)!

Carolyn: I love this list. I agree with everything. That Twilight episode with Burgess Meredith always sends tingles down my spine. My worst nightmare, too!

I am so glad to read that your eyes are on the mend!

Shalet Jimmy (shaletjimmy) | 4 comments I am an addict. Because if I encounter a reading block or could not read books as if a part of routine, then i am tensed. Whenever I slept even without reading a page, then I am stressed. Hence, I think I am a book addict.

I haven't done the party one yet but there have been times when I have been to one and wished I had a book with me, lol.

message 14: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 7 comments I have and always will be a book addict. I have fully embraced this fact of life! Here are a few of the reasons I am an addict:

1. I take a book and my kobo everywhere with me. You just never know when you will need/get a chance to read during the day
2. My family bought me my kobo so I could buy more books and still have room for them. My bookshelves are kinda full, but I still add new books when ever I can!
3. I love going to the book store to just hang around and see what new books can be added to my TBR list. I usually end up leaving the store with at least one new book too! lol
4. I have 4 or 5 coffee mugs that are book related and plan to get more!
5. I love getting books or book related gifts!
6. For Christmas I was gifted a subscription of The Bookish Box.
7. When I was little I got my mom to buy me 2 complete sets of Little House on the Prairie, one so I could read and one to stay looking pretty. I still have both sets.

I have several series like this too Sarah. I buy the hardback and don't touch it and then read the paperback over and over again.
