Christie (christineocheallaigh) | 5 comments I have 8 cats of my own (6 of them are the babies of the other two), all black. Midnight, the daddy, has long hair and green eyes. Lucky, the mommy, has short hair and yellow eyes. All the babies have short hair, and all but two of them have yellow eyes like Mommy. One definitely has green eyes, and the other one depends on what light you look at her in---sometimes her eyes look greenish, other times they look yellow. All the babies are girls (thankfully, as they're 46 weeks old today and I don't have the money to get any of them fixed---good thing Daddy is :P). You know how much fun it is having 7 cats in heat at the same time? I do. :P

I also have an albino guinea pig named Snowball that they all try to socialize with (through his cage bars). I tell them to not bother Uncle Snowball if he's eating or trying to sleep, but of course they never listen.

Wolfgang Parker | 2 comments Hello! I'm Wolfgang Parker, in Columbus, Ohio. Like all of you, I share a penchant for mysteries featuring cats. I was actually unaware of the existence of the Cat Cozy Mystery subgenre until I self-published my own cat mystery chapter book as a gift for my nineteen nieces and nephews.

I have one cat, Sascha, who hates all other cats for even breathing, so we're a one cat household. She's the queen, so it's out of my hands.

I've joined this group because I've been on GoodReads as an author for years but haven't really explored, so I figure this might be a good starting point to begin finding my literary tribe.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting you and thank you for having me. My author link is below.

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 22 comments Hi Wolfgang and welcome to the group. I have 2 cats, 1 that also hates other cats especially the other cat we have. It's been about 2 years now since we adopted/rescued him that it's now a love/hate relationship. Belle we've had for over 9 years. Barnabas is a black cat with fangs and we found him in a shelter in Salem, MA. That's how my husband came up with him name, plus we a big fans of the original show.

I will check out your link. Again welcome.

Thanks, Paula! LOL Barnabas is a great name!

Please do check out my link. My "Crime Cats" books are written for all ages, but marketed to readers aged 8 to 12.

They are about an 8-year-old superhero who solves mysteries with his two cat detectives.

And all of the cats in the books are real cats from my neighborhood. I have to get signed releases from the families to include them. It's how I've gotten to know my neighbors.

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 22 comments What a great way to get to know your neighbors. They must be thrilled to have their cats in your books.

I love it. Crime solving cats (cat detectives).

Jo | 5 comments Hello. I'm Jo. I joined this group much earlier, but have stayed in the background.

I'm from midwest US, and I had two cats, though I recently lost one (this past weekend) to diabetic ketoacidosis. My other cat is 11yo and we are adjusting to the loss together.

I love cozies in general, though cats can add something special to cozies.

Betty (bettylouise54) | 55 comments Condolences on the lost of your cat. I know what you are going through as we just loss ours. He was 15 years old. I still miss him a lot.
Have found reading about cats. There are a lot of books about them. Welcome!

Lagniappe | 29 comments Hello from New Orleans! I have read cat mysteries for years and am thrilled to find a group of like minded souls. I think almost any story gets better with the introduction of a cat (or dog). My favorite series are the Rita Mae & Sneaky Pie Brown books - Mrs. Murphy and Tee Tucker are hard to beat.
As for me, I grew up with dogs and then had cats for my entire working life. I'm currently between pets right now, but I'm sure it won't be long until another furbaby appears.

Sharon | 189 comments I just love Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie:

Mrs. Murphy; Pewter the fat lazy cat! Simon the possum who loves sweets! Never read a book with a possum in it before! Tee Tucker & the creepy Matilda black snake makes my skin crawl!

I am allergic to cats & my husband to dogs! Our daughter has 2 gold fish: Blitzen & Tip, 1 Japanese fighting fish female Mysteria. I also take her to the local Humane Society & she loves animal stories & talking animals mostly cats!

Xanthi (libertine101) Hi all.
I'm in Australia, work in a library, love cats and enjoy cozies. Currently have just 1 cat because the other passed away a few years ago. He was a big black kitty man that I loved dearly. I'm a big fan of black cats so when I come across them in cozy series, all the better!
I've also worked in a cat shelter and have done volunteer work for one, including running their annual book sales.

I also enjoy reading books that have a black cat in it. I'll be sending you a friend request. Enjoy your night.

Welcome Xanthi - sounds like you have a lot of "kitty love" in your life - friend request is on the way!

Brittany (booksandbottles) (gamerkiti) Hello, just thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself to everyone as I'm new to the group. I fell in love with cozy cat mysteries when I found Leann Sweeney's "A Cats in Trouble Mystery" series at my local Barnes and Noble. I left the store with the entire series that day (and yes I did get quite a few odd looks buying so many books at once lol). I've been on a reading hiatus for about 1-2 years now because I just couldn't find a book that I wanted to read. I started many books but never seemed interested enough to finish them - hopefully that will change this year! As for a bit about myself, I currently have 5 cats and 3 ferrets and I love all things nerdy (i.e. video games, movies/tv shows, and comic con). I'm looking forward to getting some great suggestions and recommendations from everyone here!

Sharon | 189 comments Hello Everyone! As I was reading all you newcomers I realized I have not updated my post in 2 years! My life has changed drastically since then as I am separated from my husband, live in a very nice apartment that’s expensive but nothing better priced & as nice in this small city of Stratford, Ontario, Canada. Yes I am probably the only Canadian in this group but I do love cat mysteries & most of them are written in America. I have just recently discovered an English mystery series & love it too! My daughter is old enough now to have her own Goodreads account & lives with me part time.
I lost my cat Miracle who is on my profile picture as a reminder of my one & only cat, in 2007 just after her 10th birthday. I am allergic to cats but lucky my friend just got a hairless kitten & I am not allergic to Thomas! I pet sit him when my friend goes away almost every holiday including a week this past Christmas which was very nice as I only had my daughter half the week.
I enjoy reading about all the mystery novels you all wrote about in the coming year.

Rachelle | 8 comments Sharon, I have been to Stratford by bus to see shows there. You live in a lovely town. Perhaps, someday, I will be able to visit there again.

message 67: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 189 comments Yes that would be nice. We are lucky here to have The Shakespearean Festival, The Avon Theatre & a new Theatre opening by the Avon River I think it’s still going to be called The Tomas Patterson Theatre but much bigger & more beautiful with more parking then the other theatres. I think all shows are sold out fir the coming year & probably no cheaper tickets will come up because it’s 1st year running so I may get to see a play there in 2021! They should have a Festival Store like the other 2 do so I can at least get to see inside. They are barely on schedule & with a crapy winter so far of rain, ice, slush & very little snow it’s been hard going. It’s better if the ground is frozen as they are doing inside work so they don’t have to worry about mud or other problems with ice.

SarahG (sarahg626) | 100 comments I lost my 17 year old cat Lilly on New Year's Eve! Very devastating! Her younger "brother" Buster and "sister" Midget are the only 2 left in our house now. I don't see myself getting another cat anytime soon (unless another mitten-paw comes across my path). That's how I got Midget 2 years ago after I lost my Punkin.

And I don't think I ever really introduced myself in this thread. I am 42 years old and from Central Ohio. I got started into reading again a few years ago when my Mom introduced me to Rita Mae Brown's Mrs Murphy series. Since then I've read lots of other series but I enjoy the cat-ones the most.

My Midget is black and a mitten-paw (1 extra toe on both front feet). As a 4 week old kitten, she followed my friend and her 2 Golden Retrievers home from a run. My friend's hubby is VERY superstitious so black cat had to go and I had just lost my Punkin 5 days prior. She was sooooooo tiny which is where her name comes from.

Susan Bogush | 1 comments Hi. I am Susan from Philly, PA. Thank so much for letting me join! I love all kinds of cozy mysteries from cats to ghosts.

message 71: by Moondance (new)

Moondance (moondance120) | 3 comments Hi, I’ve belonged to this group for a while but have not participated. I decided to join the 2023 Challenge.

I’m Cheryl aka Moondance. I live in Charlotte NC and have 8 cats. Calliope, Jinx, and Skye are 13. Clancy is 11. Luna, Cooper, Riley, and Scout are 7. I feed several colonies of feral/community cats. Molly lives in my neighborhood and is the last of a colony here. She is 13. Star is a 16 year old feral that lives near my former office. I still feed him as well. I’ve been involved with TNR for over 30 years. I no longer foster because I’m a foster fail. (See Luna and the boys above…)

I’m a co-mod on a cozy group so I do read a lot of those. I also enjoy UF/PNR, thrillers and contemporary romance.

Thank you for the new challenge.

Hi Cheryl! I'm so glad you introduced yourself and your feline crew. That is so great that you feed the feral community.

I'm Yvonne, the owner of the group. I'm in Florida and have three cats - Oreo and Cookie - they are two years old. Kit is five.

The group has been quiet but I'm hoping the 2023 challenge will get everyone going again. I love all cozy mysteries with or without cats, but cats have a special place in my heart.

Enjoy the group!
