Mike (mpetrucelli) | 3 comments I read a book forever ago (I think it had a blue cover with some old building on it. I listened to the audio version, but it was also published in dead tree) about a young man who goes to either a boarding school or college. He is the poor son of a single mom. His father was only referred to as The Walrus in his mom's diary. He goes to the school and meets these wealthy twin sisters and begins dating one of them but at some point they start switching roles on him because he discovers some dark secret about his dad, them, the school or something. And there's some dude who's a total meth fiend that the people hiding the secret hire to kill the kid and maybe his mom and the climax of the book involved him chasing everyone all around in some catacombs with a shotgun shouting "I am the walrus!" Can't for the life of me remember what it was. Any ideas?

Around what year did you read it? Was the "meth fiend" literally on meth? Set in the U.S.? What region?

Mike (mpetrucelli) | 3 comments Some time in the late '90s or early '00s. Set in the U.S. Massachusetts, I think. And the meth fiend was a young, surf bum type. And yes, he tweaks crystal meth throughout the book more and more until he starts snorting it dry. The catch phrase for his internal monologue throughout the book was "Fuckin' animal!", pardon the expression. I can't believe I remember all this stuff but I can't remember the title or author. And for some reason, I conflate it with the movie The Skulls in my mind, though I'm not sure there are similarities or not.

Mike (mpetrucelli) | 3 comments OMG, your comment got my memory jogged a bit better and this is the one: Crying Wolf, by Peter Abrahams! Thanks so much!
