The only formats for which book-in-hand does not trump publisher/Amazon/etc. data are ebooks. User settings, precise model of ereader, and other variables can mean that the same book on your ereader and mine have different page counts. Therefore, for ebooks (including Kindle editions), the page number should come from the publisher.

Clwseattle | 91 comments I'm not sure what the point is of offering us all these editions, we scour the list to find the one we've read ... and then the site defaults to ANOTHER edition. I know when I read the Trilogy of the Rings - 1974 - I chose an edition from then or before BUT the site lists the 2005 edition as the one I've read. This makes me crazy!

Abcdarian | 26579 comments The 1974 edition is on your shelf actually. The default edition just indicates that you have read the book, not necessarily that edition of it. It's the one on your own shelf that counts.
