Lauren Smith Either is fine with me. I'll pencil it in on the schedule, and we can finalise a date closer to the time.

Fine by me. Just let me know and I will be there!

message 53: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Ok, it's Thursday again, so everyone can nominate another task :)

Read a book with a title that begins and ends with the same letter. The, a and an do count this time. So if your book starts with the your last letter has to be a t.

message 56: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith 14. Read a book that has been nominated for or won an award for Best Debut Novel in the last five years (2010-2014)

17. In June it will be 50 years since the conclusion of the Rivonia Trial. Read a book that features one the cast of characters of the trial or that deals with South African politics in general.

Damn, I just read the only book I have for that...

What did you read? We'll find something.

message 62: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I read Dark Windows by Louis Greenberg .

I liked it, so I'm hoping to find another spec fic novel because honestly, the thought of reading a book about SA politics just makes me feel like I'm in high school.

message 63: by Marlese (new)

Marlese Du Toit | 161 comments My nomination: read a book that was made into a TV series or movie or contains a character that appears in a TV series or movie e.g Pride and Prejudice or the Rizzoli and Isles series from Tess Gerritsen. This one gives you lots of options.

message 64: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Another round of nominations has begun! Everyone can nominate another task.

message 65: by Liezel (new)

Liezel (liezkl) | 736 comments Read a book with word(s) in the title that denotes a day or time of day (but not the word day itself) e.g., midnight, 24 hours, 12:00

message 66: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Liezel wrote: "Read a book with word(s) in the title that denotes a day or time of day (but not the word day itself) e.g., midnight, 24 hours, 12:00"

I changed 12:00 to "noon" as it's more likely to occur in a title.

cool, just figured I'd cover all possibilities.

message 68: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jevine) | 942 comments Read an anthology or omnibus with at least 2 books. They do not all need to be by the same author. This can include box sets by one author or on a theme. List the omnibus / anthology title as well as the individual titles read. At least 2 of the books should meet the 150 page requirement

message 69: by Lauren (last edited May 22, 2014 06:16AM) (new)

Lauren Smith I'm sorry Jennifer but if I'm reading that task correctly I'd say it breaks the rule that says each task should only require you to read 1 book. If you need to read something that includes at least two books of 150 pages each, then you're already reading two books by our standards.

However, I'm willing to allow it if you change it to something like "Read a collection of short stories/novellas OR an omnibus of at least two books of minimum 150 pages each." That way, those who don't want to read short stories or novellas have the option of reading several novels instead, but no one is forced to read two books for one task.

Read a book that can be associated with a character from Cluedo (Miss Scarlett, Colonel Mustard, Mrs White, Reverend Green, Mrs Peacock (blue), Professor Plum). This can include colours/images used on the cover, words in the title or subject matter of the book.

Read a book by an author that you have previously read (and enjoyed), but have not read in the past two years.

I don't know what nr we are at anymore lol

- Read a book that has a ':' in the title. Example: Neptune Noir: Unauthorized Investigations into Veronica Mars or Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail by Succeed

message 75: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith It's a colon :)

Will add the new tasks to the list now so we have a number.

message 76: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith OK, we're at 23. I've left out Jennifer's nomination until I get a reply from her.

Ah that's its name!

message 78: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jevine) | 942 comments Hi Lauren

I accept the query and we can change the task.

Amended task:

Read a collection of short stories or an anthology / ombnibus with a minimum page count of 150. The stories do not need to be all by the same author

message 79: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Great, thanks Jennifer!

message 80: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Oh, wait, I'm just a bit confused about the omnibus now - it can just be "omnibus edition" rather than "omnibus with a minimum page count of 150" can't it? The 150 page count thing is standard for all tasks. Or do you mean what you had in the original task - an omnibus edition where at least two of the books have a minimum page count of 150?

message 81: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jevine) | 942 comments It can just be an omnibus edition

message 82: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Ok, thanks :)

Read a book that deals with a real fear. So anything from fear of water or flying to fear of spiders.

Totally forgot to put my two cents in. I have been running in and out of hospitals for the last week and anything requiring more than one brain cell has slipped my mind.

I am, my mum unfortunately isn't. She had cataract surgery last week and we don't know exactly what went wrong, but we do know that something that was used during surgery wasn't sterile. So a bacteria entered her eye and she has a massive infection and had to have several procedures where they stuck needles into her eye and she even had to stay a couple of days. She might even have to have another operation later on. All they are doing now is trying to save the eye and prevent the infection from spreading further into her head and body. Her sight in the eye that was operated on is lost. All we can hope for at this point is that she can distinguish light from dark when the eye is healed, but even that isn't sure.
My dad isn't very helpful in this kind of situations, because he doesn't know how to take care of stuff and doesn't ask anything because they are the doctors and they know what they are doing (yeah right). My sister is such a b***h that she hasn't even found the time to visit our mum let alone help in bringing my mum to all the different hospitals we had to go to. So it has been a very busy week. Especially considering I had to work too. Fortunately most hospitals here have wifi so I spent the time in the hospitals reading and playing games. But anything that took more brain cells was just too much for my brain to handle.

29. Judge a book by its cover. Read a book with a cover that you really love.

Thanks guys! It is again something my mum and I will struggle through and will come out stronger at the other end. At least I hope so.

In honor of my mum:
30) Read a book in which motherhood plays a big part.

And that is as they say it!
Happy planning and reading!
