Hey everyone!
I'm a little late to the party here and I am just reading The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices for the first time! I'm halfway through City of Ashes right now, and it is SO GOOD!!!!
Now, what order am I supposed to read these books in? I've heard many different answers, but since I'm nearing the end of another book, I don't want to get lost if I'm reading out of order!!

Thoughts??
Meridel

1. City of Bones
2. City of Ashes
3. City of Glass
4. City of Fallen Angels
5. City of Lost Souls
6. City of Heavenly Fire

For the Infernal Devices
1. Clockwork Angel
2. Clockwork Prince
3. Clockwork Princess

Happy Reading!

Giada Cassandra suggest an other order:
City of bones,
city of ashes,
city of glas ,
clockwork angel,
clockwork prince,
clockwork princess,
City of fallen angels,
City of lost souls,
City of heavey fire.
Then:
The Bane chronicles,
shadowhunters academy,
Lady Midnight

Nellie ☾ (derpnerys) | 25 comments Hi, you can try reading them in the order they were published:

City of Bones
City of Ashes
City of Glass
Clockwork Angel
City of Fallen Angels
Clockwork Prince
City of Lost Souls
Clockwork Princess
City of Heavenly Fire

This is because there are a lot of stuff that would make more sense in the last 3 books if you read them along with TID. They're connected. After all these, you may want to read The Bane Chronicles then Lady Midnight :)

DON'T FORGET SHADOWHUNTERS ACADEMY

Yeah, true. And you also want to read Clockwork Princesses before City of Heavenly Fire because you will get spoiled if you don't read CP2 before CoHF.

BooksAreLife reading Cassie's books in publication order is the easiest and u get the best experience. Especially now with all the new series coming out, it's easier to keep track of them by order of publication. And whatever u do, read THE INFERNAL DEVICES BEFORE CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE!!!

Laura | 70 comments My friend is determined to read all the TMI books before the TID despite the fact I've been telling her she needs to read them in the order you guys have said above. So I sent her screenshots of this conversation in the hope she will finally listen to me! Fingers crossed this works haha!

Awesome!! So so helpful. I've heard that CoHF is full of feels and spoilers for TID so I wanted to be sure.
I feel like I'm so behind everyone else with this series :)

Oh yeah, that too haha though I haven't read it myself. Would save that since more books are coming xD

Haha it's okay. I think you're only on time since two more books from The Dark Artifices are coming and as well as The Last Hours :)

Karen (twistedinpages) This topic was so useful, albeit slight out of date now! I have recently started reading the book series myself and I was in a dilemma as to whether to read them in series order or publication order.

As I have said in my intro, alongside my usual reading, I have set myself a challenge to complete the books this year (excluding the SALs/novellas - although I will read these as well if I still have time!). I’m coming to the end of City of Glass, so I have around 10 more to go. They are so good!

BTW I’m going to read them in publication order, so on to Clockwork Angel next!
