SOLVED. Sci-fi/ speculative/future fiction, over-population, young people want older person to take a suicide pill so they can have a baby [s]

I only read a small amount of this so I don't know if what I read was a short story in an anthology or an extract from a longer story.

It was set in the future with limits on conception due to over population. There was a family gathering of some kind and a younger couple wanted an elderly relative to take a suicide pill so they would be allowed to have a baby. I can't remember whether the over population was caused by people living much longer.

I read this in the late 90s or early 2000s.

This sounds a lot like a short story in Kurt Vonnegut's collection "Welcome to the Monkey House" called 'Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow'- I think. I hope this is it!
