Carol Tietsworth | 203 comments Being a professionally trained proofreader as well as an experienced copy-editor makes me a good choice for the person looking for help with their manuscript. The fact that I am also a published author only makes me a better one.
I have been proofreading and copyediting for some time now, and I keep my fees lower than the norm for two important reasons, 1) I know authors typically have to budget for services, and 2) I do this as a side business to augment my full-time time job as a litigation paralegal.
I make sure that none of my authors feel short-changed, and have never had complaints about this from authors I've contracted with-often I have repeat business from them.
I charge .003/word for proofreading, or $30.00 per 10,000 words and .004/word for copyediting, or $40.00 per 10,000 words. If I contract for copyediting I throw in the proofreading as I'm already in there.
