Looking for a guy named Muffin

I read a SciFi series a while ago and I can't remember the name of it!

One of the main characters, (he was not the love interest in the first few books, but he eventually got his own story), was named Muffin, (It's a very masculine name on his home planet).

Anyone know the books I'm talking about?
