Read-a-Thon #1 - Book Genie

2. To give me the right book for me to read at the right time for me to read it - so that I get the most out of each book.
3. To be able to have access to any book I want, in any format, when I want it.
I'm not sure I can think of ten!

1. Illiteracy would be a thing of the past. Everyone would be able to read, enjoy, and discuss books.
2. And no one should ever be denied access to books or the knowledge they contain. I want every man, woman, and child on the planet to have easy and convenient access to books.
2. Better book retention. We're talking like hyperthymesia good. This is why I almost prefer to read a series when it's complete or nearly complete. Years between books makes me a bit fuzzy on the details.
3. All the covers would match! Always. It drives me absolutely bonkers when publishers release books with different cover themes or styles in the middle of the series. Ugh.
4. Hogwarts would be real and I definitely would have gotten my letter. Guess there would be some minor time travel involved in this wish.
5. Build me a beautiful house, Genie. This is totally book-related 'cause I want a library in every room. Even the kitchen and bathrooms. Books as far as the eye can see! And there will be vintage card catalogs and bookish art and it will be so lovely.
6. Super speed reading abilities would definitely need to happen. I still want to be able to enjoy and comprehend everything I read, I just want to be able to read as many books as possible in my lifetime.
7. Hollywood would make perfect movie adaptions of the books I love. I don't care if they're 8 hours long, they've got to get the details right.
8. The most perfect reading spot for whatever mood I'm in that I can magically teleport to whenever I want. Today it might be a hammock on the beach. Tomorrow it might be a log cabin deep in the mountains. You've got to be flexible, Genie.
9. You know what, if we're already doing the teleport thing, I should totally be able to teleport in and out of all of my favorite book worlds whenever I like.
10. Last, but not least. I want instant and unlimited access to all the books. Ever. Maybe just snap my fingers and there it is... the very book I was thinking of.That's not too much to ask, right?

But I'm going to think about it.
edit: and forgetting to post because you're reading is a very good excuse

Emm, you put a lot of my wishes beautifully, I need to think if I can add something up.

Emm, you put a lot of my wishes beautifully, I need to think if I can add something up."
We're next to the kitchens as well, so unlimited midnight snacks for when we're being kept up by amazing books!

Okay genie, here are my wishes:
1. There would be a lovely cafe by me with tons of bookshelves and that has cozy couches for everyone to sit on and read.
2. Hogwarts would exist! I can't wait to visit the house elves and join SPEW! And the classes, and the castle, and Hogsmeade, and life!
3. Any other literary world I fell in love with would come to life/exist when I want it to! (If I fall in love with a war book, I probably wouldn't want that to come into existence..just want my genie to be clear on that).
4. There would be a "leave a book, take a book" library near me that has amazing books all the time!
5. I would have a HUGE library in my house (think Beauty & the Beast) with a fun wooden ladder I can swing on to get my next book!
6. If I didn't know the meaning of a word when I'm reading an actual book (I'm talking a book in my hand with actual paper), I want to be able to put my finger on it and get the definition (like an e-reader).
7. To read faster! I'm such a slow reader, but there's so much I want to read!
8. Like Jody said, I'd like to have the ability to know whether or not I would enjoy a book beforehand!
9. A never ending supply of coffee, tea, wine, and snacks. To have when I'm reading of course..
10. I like Emm's ability to transport to the perfect reading spot. Today, I definitely want to be sitting poolside!

1. Being able to retain EVERYTHING you read in a book--photographic memory would be awesome!
2. Having the ability to remake any book-related film so it matches the book perfectly!
3. To have a library that looks just like the one in the Beast's castle in the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast!

Nicole, I love the idea of you swinging from ladders like Belle in Beauty and the Beast to grab your books. Haha. Too funny.

1. Genie, please give George R. R. Martin mega inspration and supercharged typing speed so he can release the rest of the Song of Ice and Fire series. I am going crazy with waiting!
2. Genie, please kick Patrick Rothfuss gently but efficiently in the butt to hurry up with the Kingkiller's Chronicle and release the last book soon!
3. Genie, please make me be able to read about four times faster. That's about my daughter's speed...
4. Genie, please make me remember books about ten times better.
5. Genie, give me a bigger house so I have room for more book shelves.
6. Genie, please give me perfect eyes...
7. This is probably breaking the rules, but if it is not, it should be #1: please, please, let's travel to the past and make it so that Terry Pratchett never gets Alzheimers and lives for another fifty years, writing more Discworld books!
8. Chocolate consumed while reading should have 0 calories - otherwise being exactly the same.
Should be easy for a genie so big and powerful...

It's Top Ten Tuesday. That's where the big one-oh came from. :)

1. A house that grows with the size of my book collection, so I never have to give up buying books! ( like a Mary Poppins bag only a whole house. Bigger on the inside so maybe more like a Tardis!)
2. Being able to remember all the books I read forever
3. Not having to worry about money so I can read and buy all the books I want!
4. Not needing a lot of sleep so that I can read and still have time to spend with family and friends
That's all I can come up with for now!

#7 would be my #1
Hollywood can sure ruin the memory of a good book. I've gotten so I won't watch the movie after the book unless it a 5 star rating. I get so disappointed when they leave out so much information and the story seems dull and unsubstantiated.
Then the general public thinks the book can't be any good. Or especially with young people, if you ask them if they read a certain book, they say "no, I saw the movie", implying , "why should I, I know the WHOLE story" grrrrrr

Genie, I really wish that the time I spend reading is as much resting and good for my body and my brain as sleep. So anytime I feel I need energy, I read a while and it's like a power nap! Same for nighttime, I could read all night and go to work as fresh and rested as if I slept for 9 hours!

1. I wish my husband/children/step-children all loved reading as much as I do.
2. I wish that none of them had to deal with any reading disabilities (Comprehension/retention issues and dyslexia begone!)
3. I wish all books were free to read, but the author still got paid handsomely for their gift.
4. I wish people weren't so judgey about what format or genre other people read. Kindle/paperback/hard cover/audiobook, .....fiction/non fiction/dystopia/romance/whatever! Let's all just be happy everyone is enjoying themselves!
5. I wish I could write as well as any of my favorite authors.
6. I wish all my favorite authors could get whatever they needed in life to keep their creativity flowing and the books churning out. More money....here it is. Ideal babysitter...there you go. Perfect writing locale.....here's your one way ticket, enjoy! :-)
7. I wish library books never smelled of cigarette smoke or marijuana. Just a little thing but kind of important to me....
8. Speaking of libraries, I wish they all got DOUBLE the money they need every year. More books and more programs to get people through their doors.
9. OH! Please bring back bookmobiles in every town.
10. Hm...one last wish...I know, I wish my cats would sleep BEHIND my kindle instead of in FRONT of it. Much easier to see that way, and I could use them as little props to hold it up. :-)

1. I wish everyone could read with ease.
2. I wish everyone had access to all the books, no censorship but freedom of thought.
3. I wish public and institution libraries would have all the funding they'd need. This would mean no queue on OverDrive either.
4. I wish it would be easy to lend my ebooks to family and friends, no matter where in the world they are.
5. I wish ebooks would cost considerably less than paper books.
6. I wish paper books would become the next fad, with antiquarians prospering - and doing events etc. to lure people in. Locally, they are drowning in books and nobody wants to buy my used books, which in itself is a bit of a tragedy (not the money aspect). They aren't making it easy to find books, though, and in general they could be a bit more business savvy (realistic price points to keep inventory moving).
7. I wish publishers wouldn't favour white authors, but POC would get the same chances.
8. I wish all authors would be properly compensated rather than forced to live on coins.
9. I wish snobbery about self-publication would end.
10. I wish snobbery about genre preferences would end.

2. All of my paperback books are changed into hardback books.
3. Modern books had the "old book smell".
4. Lifetime funding for libraries. Never a worry that'll they'll have to close. Ever!
5. Everyone in the world is instantly literate. Just born? *BAM* Instant literacy! Didn't/couldn't get an education? *BAM* Instant literacy!
6. Books are incorruptible to everything! Drop it in the bathwater? No worries! Waterproof! House catch on fire? No worries! Fireproof! Dog mistake it for a chew toy? No worries! Indestructible!
7. The Dewey Decimal System and Card Catalog System are relevant again.
8. Everyone, but especially children, receive the gift of books for birthdays and holidays.
9. GoodReads had a better search Engine.
10. World peace through books.

And the library wish! Awesome.
Actually, these are all pretty great.

1. I wish my husband/children/step-children all loved reading as much as I do.
2. I wish that none of them had to deal with any reading disabilities (Comprehension/retention i..."
Cat book props LOL

1. The ability to read paper copies of books and even documents without ever getting paper cuts!
2. The ability to change the size/format/font of a book. I have quite a few (ie. my collection of Nicholas Sparks books) where I started buying a different format partway through, and it annoys me when they don't match.
3. The ability to find and buy out-of-print books. Mostly, I'm thinking of the two specific books I'm missing from my Royal Diaries collection (Isabel: Jewel of Castilla, Spain, 1466 and Kaiulani: The People's Princess, Hawaii, 1889). I guess technically this ability exists via ebay, but I honestly don't really trust it...
4. Books would never get damaged, no matter how many times they were read. I hate when my books start having cracked spines or pages rip.

1. For it to be my job to read for at least 8 hours a day Monday - Friday, where I can read whatever I like and get paid for doing so. Also, as these are my working hours, people can't disturb me while I'm reading them because 'ssshh I'm busy working!' Of course, I can still continue to read in my own time but I wouldn't get paid for those hours.

If a book genie showed up and offered you 10 book related wishes, what would they be?
