Koda | 1 comments Hello all, I hope everyone is having a great week and some good reads! :) I was looking for some people's opinions on some questions, I do apologize if you are seeing this on more than one group you are in as I am trying to get various thoughts and opinions on this.

From what I have seen, most books that are about or even vaguely consisting of shapeshifters seem like there is only one or two types at a time. On top of that, they seem to typically consist of wolves, bears, lions, dragons, maybe the occasional tiger... Are there any books with all types of animal shifters or do they mainly focus on one type?

Is there any interest in an actual world of animal shapeshifters? Or do readers want more magical beings as well such as vampires, witches, and other mythical type beings and beasts?

Do readers tend to prefer a longer book or a series of shorter installments? I suppose the better question to ask would be Do readers feel more comfortable purchasing a book from a first time author if it is offered in shorter installments (therefore giving a cheaper price to "try" them out)? Or do readers prefer to just buy one larger book?

Thank you for your time and input. Any opinions you share are most appreciated!

Casceil | 2728 comments There are books with shapeshifters who shift into other sorts of animals. The Charlaine Harris Sissy Stackhouse books have dogs and tigers and other animals. In the Jane Yellowrock books, Jane can turn into any animal if she has what she needs from that animal or bird, usually a bone or tooth. There are so many books out there now about so many types of shapeshifters, I'm not sure what is left for authors who want to break new ground.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments In the Iron Druid books, the druids can shape shift in to four different animals. The books also feature werewolves and vampires as well as fairies, demons, and gods, who shape shift.

Are you a writer, Koda? Is that why you asked the questions?

For me, it is not a question of what I want, or how long it is. If it is out there and sounds like an interesting story, I will read it.

Sarah | 18549 comments I was going to Sookie Stackhouse books have shifters in of all different types of animal. The Mercedes Thompson series has a coyote in addition to bog standard werewolves.

I'm starting to get annoyed with series, in particular in the fantasy genre. A good ole standalone book would be great! Not bothered at length as long as it's good. I don't like the installment thing which seems to be quite popular at the moment. Hugh Howey did that with his books. I didn't bother buying any of them and waited for the omnibus addition. I'd have hated having to wait in between the small installments. Everyone is different so getting people to answer your questions probably won't provide you with the information you want in order to make a decision. If you're a writer, I would do what you want to do. It will have more passion behind it then.

I'm with you on this, Sarah!
