Ch 1-10: (view spoiler)[ I really like the setting of the novel and the time period this is being set in (something and somewhere new for me). Lada is very aggressive and as far as I understand, she's supposed to be like that because she's the female Vlad the Impaler. She's super head-strong, witty, and protective (I love), but her aggressiveness, exclusion of Radu, and need to please her father makes her a little unlikable and worrisome. Radu is like the silent, but deadly character no one looks out for and I feel like he is going to join the Ottoman Empire and/or kill his older brother Macerinas because of the abuse. The politics is a little confusing and where Lada and Radu's father stands in terms of power as well as his enemies & frienemies needs a little development, but really liking this so far! I wonder if Lada and Bogdan will be reunited because I feel bad for what happened to him and I bet the effect of Lada's father's indifference towards it will make Lada take some risks to get back her companion. He's an interesting character, but I have a feeling Lada will betray him because she is selfish and Radu will eventually turn against his sister. Ch 20-30 (view spoiler)[: So Lada and Radu betrayed Mehmed, which I saw coming and there is a budding romance between Lada and Mehmed. I have a love-hate relationship with Lada and Radu. I don't like either of them, but I don't dislike them either...And Mehmed isn't as intriguing of a character as I thought. I like the history aspect of the story, but I'm really bored right now. End (view spoiler)[ There were a lot of surprising elements with this novel, despite it's slow pace. The end was what I was hoping for with some action happening. Happy for Radu, but Lara is so unlikable. Like I get she is supposed to be brutal and rough, but then she lets Mehmed kinda walk all over her because of their relationship. It was kind of a meh book tbh, but I've heard the next two books really pick up, so hoping this picks up in the next book! (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[ Ok so I was putting off finishing this, but really the last 25% flew by. There was alot happening here at the end. Bogdan!! This book was like a study in selfishness. The consequences of greed and selfishness. Really from all characters, all sides. I don't think I will want to continue the series. I was expecting supernatural from this series and instead we got some sort of historical fiction. I wasn't a huge fan of any of the characters because they all were just so enormously flawed. It was kind of heart breaking watching them tear themselves a part due to their flaws. The whole feel of the book kinda had me down. I probably won't continue the story anytime soon. Honestly I kind of wish I hadn't bought the whole series when it went on sale last month... (hide spoiler)]
