I attempted this book last year and ended up putting it down to read later, because it was just too dark for what I needed at the moment.
I'm glad to see that you liked it.

It was a meaningful read. Then I wanted to lock it in a lead coffin and bury very deeply in the woods and pretend I never read it and that it was never written.

Hah! That's funny. I will read it when I'm ready for a book like that.

If Cory Doctorow's Little Brother was a modern day re-telling of Orwell's 1984, then Circle is a modern day prequel of how Big Brother came to be and why society let it happen.
Much is familiar as the story sets out. Social media is becoming a big thing. We have a big corporation founded by a reclusive genius that keeps finding new ways to broaden digital frontiers and innovating ground breaking technology. Clearly modeled after Facebook and Google.
The story follows our heroine who by lucky accident becomes a viral live video sensation, and becomes the pioneer (and subject of this story) for the evolving of the social media frontiers.
This book TERRIFIES me. The real world has made many leaps and the groundwork is well established for the horrific social mores of these stories to become part of our reality.
One day, will someone attempt to manifest the final idea in The Circle? I really hope I'm not around for that.
Forget scary monsters, bloody knives, ghosts and what have you. This is a true book of horror.
Highly recommended if you feel brave enough.
