Gabriel is shown as the poor boy among the rich ones. He's bullied and humiliated. He's a quite a rebel too. I still have to figure him out.
Volatile, the bird-girl, I still can't figure her out. I mean yeah she's this fictional character and stuff but what do I visualise her as? A girl with wings or a bird with a face of a girl? It's little bit confusing but that's all about me. Overall, she is shown as a mysterious girl and I love mystery. I really look forward to her in the latter parts.
Darlo Gallo may have shown as a mean girl here but she definitely cares for him. Maybe loves him, too but I ain't sure about that.
I think Orlando has a major part in the book. He's shown good and kind but I bet, he's the bad guy in here. He's the Dark One, I think. This is no spoiler. It's in the synopsis.
I like the part one but there are too many Italian references. I don't know Italian language and I can't google everything every time I read something different. It would be too difficult. Also, I hate to stop while I read. It breaks my rhythm. You know what I am saying? I just ignore those references. No offence but.
Yup, that's it. ❤️

I think Gabriel is a little whiny. Yes he is poor and I get it being bullied is no fun and all but he is very woe is me. I really want him to just get out of his little bubble and appreciate everyone and everything a little more.
Volatile is a complete mystery. I want to know her whole backstory. Where does she come from? Who are the other people with her? I love that she pushes and challenges Gabriel but I want to know more about her.
I think Orlando has to have a larger part. The author has spent so much time on his character and he obviously knows secrets about Volatile that he isn't sharing. I love Saumya's idea that Orlando may be evil or a villain in some way, although that would make me very sad.
I think the dreams are because of his mother. I think she is right and she does have more than just a common medical condition. I believe that her illness was passed on to Gabriel in the form of these dreams and those dreams are somehow connected to who or what Volatile is.
Here is your discussion for part 1 of Gabriel and the Swallows. If you haven't reached this part in the book yet, it's okay. Just read at your own pace and join us when you're ready! We hope you are loving Gabriel as much as we are!
Something to talk about:
1. What are you initial thoughts of our main characters, Gabriel and Volatile?
2. Do you think Orlando has a larger part in this story than what has been revealed so far?
3. What do you think of Gabriel's dreams? Why do you think Volatile has the ability to enter them?
