I know I've read this book in the last couple of years as an ebook but I can't remember what it was called.

The heroine is a student in highschool who gets into a relationship with her teacher.

They go on a school/class trip and she nearly drowns. He saves her. Then he takes her to a cave and they talk about his family. I think he grew up near that area.

There's also a masked ball which they both attend and end up kissing.

I can't remember anything else. It was an adult/young adult book.

I'm pretty sure one of her parents was dead, maybe her Mum and she just lives with her Dad who is absent a lot. I can't remember anything else sorry
