Ethan BY next week I will be finishing The Stand (for the 2nd time).
My goal is to eventually read every Stephen King book available and although there are some I have read before, there are many classics I've never read.

The following list are a few books that I own and would like some help deciding which one to start next weekend:
1. CUJO
2. GREEN MILE (read once before)
3. NEEDFUL THINGS
4. BAG OF BONES
5. MISERY (read once before)
6. INSOMNIA
7. FOUR PAST MIDNIGHT
8. Your suggestion?

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I love his short stories, so I would say to go with Four Past Midnight.

Ron | 134 comments Cujo is the earliest of his book releases on your list. Or, have you tried his Bachman books?

message 4: by Ethan (new)

Ethan I have been thinking about Misery lately but Cujo is probably going to be the next book I read. Four Past Midnight is also high on my list.

As of Bachman, the only one I've read has been The Regulators (Desperation was better). The Regulators was kind of a disappointment.

I mention Bachman partly because I am currently reading them, and partly because they are some of his earliest works. If you can get your hands on Rage, then give it a try. The Long Walk was great, in my opinion, but many didn't care for it (He started the writing Long Walk and Rage while just a senior in high school!). The thing is that they are each very different compared to his other books.
Starting Roadwork myself. Have not read The Regulators - yet, but I've heard people say the same thing you did.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) The Regulators isn't really the same as the early Bachman books. It has a completely different feel and tone. (Blaze doesn't really feel like a Bachman book either, in my opinion.)

If you can find one, older editions of The Bachman Books: Four Early Novels will contain Rage, which is out of print now. That might be easier to find than Rage itself.

I'm late on this but I'd start with Cujo (but it's best if you've already read The Dead Zone, otherwise read that first). Then Bag of Bones, before you do any re-reads. As for Backman, The Long Walk is one of King's very best novels, up there with some of his greatest works. I'd read that one.

Amber Banks (book_hore1123) | 4 comments Sorry for the late post but..

The first SK book I ever read was Needful Things. I've been hooked on his every word ever since..Literally. If you have not read it I highly recommend it. You'll find yourself in the little town of Castle Rock, Maine witnessing the EPIC battle of good vs. evil. Corny, I know. But you'll get it once you read it.

Dylan | 28 comments You should definitely read The Shining and IT if you haven't read those. Also, Different Seasons is an amazing novella collection. If you haven't read that one I highly recommend it. I'm sure you know about Rita Haywroth and the Shawshank Redemption and The Body (Stand by Me), but the other two stories, Apt Pupil and The Breathing Method, are very good. Apt Pupil is one of my favorite Stephen King stories. I am going to read Misery sometime soon because I haven't gotten to that one yet.

That is one of my favorites by him. I believe I have read it about 4 times already.
