Lord Fairchild appears to have gotten away with the abuse of his daughters. Do you believe Sebastian and/or Hero will leave things as they are?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments Hero was shocked to learn that such abuse occurred anywhere. After she recovers from the shock, I don't know whether she will be silent about it. Does Sebastian know that Hero knows what he felt was too sordid to tell her, with respect to his suspicions about Fairchild?

What about the brother -- does he know?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments Yeah, Sebastian thinks he is being so clever not telling Hero things he believes she is to delicate to know. There is nothing delicate about her - she has a backbone of steel and he's going to have to learn to deal with it.

Fairchild is a coward and perhaps he will get his just desserts someday. Unfortunately, even if Hero does expose his secret, Rachel is not there to prove it.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments It seems that at least some people are aware of Fairchild's predilection for young girls since Somerville mentioned that his own father would not allow his sisters to visit that estate. As usual though, maintaining appearances and not causing scenes or rocking the boat outweighs protecting the children. Too bad his first wife wasn't successful in killing him.

Good question, Stephanie...

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments At this point in the month, I begin to look forward to the first week of the next month, so that we all can dig into our fresh supply of books and get to great discussions. What a super group I've managed to find!

Joanna | 139 comments I do. Not that they wouldn't like to see justice done, but considering Fairchild's rank and the other daughter would have to come forward I don't see it happening.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 242 comments I believe Hero has to confront Sebastian with what she knows. She will insist that Sebastian or her father deal with his behavior.
