I don't know if everyone knew how long Jarvis' arm reached, and it's inconceivable that he would permit the murder of Hero. On the other hand, these men obviously thought themselves above the power of the law and the moral code, and they killed for the thrill of it in addition to trying to quash their assassination plans from being known by others.
Yes, I was surprised especially since Epson-Smith was well aware of Jarvis's "long arm"!It showed me that the men behind the crime were not only ruthless but fanatical. Nothing undermines a person's thought processes more than fundamental beliefs.
It wouldn't surprise me for other people to try it but I was surprised that someone who had worked so closely with Jarvis and knew of his resources would try it. But it also shows that not even Jarvis is 100% all-knowing since this happened right under his nose.
It was my first big clue as I thought that person would either have no fear of Jarvis (a very short list) or in a position of power in some way.

That was my thinking Jonetta! In the beginning I also wondered if they would try and frame Sebastian - two birds one stone.

LOL!!! Doesn't surprise me we are so suspicious!
