I don't think his first thought was of Jarvis; however, with Hero asking for his involvement for the sake of justice, he didn't mind at all that this bothered her father.
Sebastian loves to stick his nose into matters that don't concern him and Hero made it easy for him in this one. Sticking it to Jarvis was a bonus.
I agree that annoying Jarvis was the cherry on the cake for Sebastian but I think that even if he had declined Hero's request his own innate curiosity would have driven him to look into the matter anyway. Sebastian just isn't built to ignore such a potential travesty of justice. I also think that this was truly the first thing to pique his interest after his eight month long drunken stupor. For the first time in a long time he has a purpose again.
It lets him stick it to Jarvis, know more about Hero (as she intrigues him being so different from other women he knows), a distraction from his heartache but also he cannot help himself.
Jarvis is such a terrible man and loved it when he threw this in his face. This case really did help Sebastian get his mind off of Kat.
I think that was the excuse he gave, but I don't think that was why he took the case on. I think he wanted justice for the victims.
