Chelsea (coutlaw) | 22 comments Hello, everyone! The read-a-long for this one doesn't officially start until next week, but I figured I'd go ahead and open the thread for all those crazy-ahead readers I know are out there!

I enjoyed the book, but felt a like it didn't quite live up to the promise on the inside jacket:

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone...

A convict with a thirst for revenge.
A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager.
A runaway with a privileged past.
A spy known as the Wraith.
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Kaz's crew are the only ones who might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first.

For those of you who haven't started - are you excited? Did you read Bardugo's first trilogy? For those that have read it - thoughts? Is this a heist novel? Don't forget to tag for any spoilers!

I read the first book in the Grisha trilogy and it was okay, but I'm really looking forward this! It's had excellent reviews and I've heard the characters are really well done so I'm looking forward to that :)

Fahim Ahmed (fahimahmed) | 2 comments This was my 2nd every YA book, so I was very taken aback by just how good it was and how much I enjoyed it. I generally prefer character driven stories so I had great time reading about this diverse cast. People tend to pick a favorite character but I liked Kaz, Inej, Nina and Mathias all equally. I haven't read the Grisha trilogy and I have to wish to, but I'll definitely follow whatever Leigh Bardugo does in the future.

On a side note, I've been following #booktubesff for a while now and finally here's a book I've read and talk about :)

Aw, Fahim, thank you so much for taking the time to finally chat! I'm glad to hear how much you enjoyed it!

SE (sebibliophile) | 16 comments I'm debating about whether or not I want to read this. On the one hand, the premise sounds interesting, but on the other hand, I read the Grisha trilogy and it was only okay for me. For those of who've read both this and the Grisha trilogy, I'd love to hear your thoughts as to how they compare.

Marc Just picked up 6 of Crows and read the first three chapters. Haven't read YA in a while - enjoying it. My only issue so far is if this is going to be a trilogy or longer, the author sure seems to be in a hurry to push the plot forward at SpaceX speed...

To the best of my knowledge, it's set to be a duology!

Yep it's a duology. Also the main plot Six of Crows wraps up by the end. So even though I was clamoring for more when I finished, I was still satisfied by the climax. Hope you enjoy the rest of it.

Rosanna (prosesroses) (prosesroses) | 11 comments I've read the Grisha trilogy and pretty soon after, dug into Six of Crows. Six of Crows is a lot better paced and fun than the Grisha trilogy. I enjoyed all the characters! Definitely a character-driven heist novel. The cast of character is so diverse too; a disabled, a plus-size, 2 non-white, and 2 maybe-lgbt characters. And they are all written well!

As for not being what's advertised in the jacket, I think it will more apply in the sequel as they will be spending the entire time in Ketterdam (which is why I'm really looking forward to Crooked Kingdom) so we get to really submerse in its culture and underpinnings plus the international impact (view spoiler), unlike this Six of Crows which was set mostly in their heist location.

Marc I finished this over the weekend. Well written and I enjoyed it for the most part, but wow - so super pitch black. I read a lot of ZA and most of those series are more positive for the future than this. Most the 'heroes' are ptsd'd gleeful wanton killers and thieves with little motivation besides past trauma and the almighty kruge. There are no good parties in this, even the 'heroes'. Even the food is horrible dutch food. I imagined this world as I read it totally in B&W. It's like Charles Dickens crossed with the late 80s crack epidemic...not sure I'll read the second...
