I am re-reading this book, I enjoyed it so much. If anyone else reads it, I would look forward to discussing it. Plenty of interesting things to discuss about When Saigon Surrendered: A Kentucky Mystery.

I've read When Saigon Surrendered: A Kentucky Mystery and really liked it. Be glad to join in the discussion when others are ready. The first two chapters really grab you and the switch from Saigon to Kentucky... wow !

Really enjoyed it, especially the main character, Russell. A neat coming of age story.

I like how the story slowly shifts over towards a mystery. It creeps up on you. And what about the hawks and snakes. Seems like some symbolism there... other opinions?

Definitely a mystical connection to the red tail hawks... that one front porch scene with the snake... wow. Felt very realistic, actually. The whole book felt 'real' to me.

Well I'm on the home stretch.. really liked how the different characters contribute different things to reach the big climax.
Just an entertaining, multi-layered, entrancing book. About to read the last chapter and will then weigh in.
I would have liked to have seen more from the Auburn college girls.. but that's about my only criticism.

I agree about the Auburn college girls. The author gave them both very clear distinct personalities even though they don't get much time in the overall plot. But they both played key roles, just like the little old Black businesswoman and the Korean gal. A real harmony of characters going on in that plot. I also would have liked to see more about the two girls from Hue Vietnam, who Russell finally managed to get rescued. To sum it up, the book could have been longer and even better :)

Just a wonderful wrap up ending, I thought. This was a coming of age story, a bit of a thriller and a real taste of what was going on in the country in the 1970s. Loved how the boys zapped the evil doers and how things came together finally. I really liked the Russell Ray Teague character, and hope we see more of him in the future.
Here's hoping James Aura gets it done. I sense there's a lot more story to tell. Also appreciate how the book did not descend into nastiness or obscenities. I would have no problem with a teen reading this book.

The author indicates on the book's facebook page that a sequel is coming that will be set with some of the same characters in the 1980s. Look forward to it.

It sounds like a great read. I've gotten heavy into Unbearable Lightness of Being.. so will keep this one on the want to read list for later.
