Nominate one (1) work about a parallel or alternate universe for our May read. In print is considered a nice touch.

Paul Howard | 73 comments Too Many Magicians by Randall Garrett? It is set in an alternate universe where a "Science of Magic" developed.

Dread Companion by Andre Norton (In print in the collection Dark Companion)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 156 comments It may not be the first to come to mind but:

The Fellowship of the Ring

Paul Howard | 73 comments Tolkien wrote the Lord of the Rings as a mythical past not an alternate/parallel world story. So I don't think it "fits" what is requested.

Clyde (wishamc) House of Reeds by Thomas Harlan
The story takes place in an Aztec/Japanese dominated human star empire in the far future of an alternate history line.
