Yaaresse | 90 comments When sorting shelves by author, I notice there are some errant troublemakers who refuse to abide by the alphabet, but I can't see any pattern to explain it. On my Read shelf, these are the problem children listed as author:
Cooking Light Magazine (I assume because these are cookbooks published by that magazine)
Harold Klemp
Moosewood Collective
Paul Twitchell

Everyone else falls nicely into line. Could there be a blank space or tab entered in the database in front of these names that is forcing them to the top of an alphabetized sort?

lethe | 16359 comments Cooking Light Magazine and Moosewood Collective should be sorted under the C and M, respectively. If they are not, it could be a bug in the sort order causing names that don't fall into the 'last name, first name' category to be sorted first, and should be reported to GR.

The other two are GR authors and cannot be checked by librarians. Please report to support (at) goodreads (dot) com.

Yaaresse | 90 comments Cooking Light and Moosewood Collective are going right to the top of the list, before all authors with surname beginning in "A".

OK, will do for the other two. Thanks.

I just now corrected the Work Projects Administration and it sorts correctly under the W instead of under A (Administration had been sorted as "last name"). So definitely report the corporate authors as well, there is something wrong with those two.

Yaaresse | 90 comments I didn't even catch that one yet. Thanks.

It's got to be a bear trying to keep it all straight when there are oddball entries like that.

What's the protocol is someone who was actually the editor is listed as the author of a collection? Does that stand or ???

lethe | 16359 comments In that case the author role has not been filled in and defaults to "author". It is an easy fix, just report it under "book issues".

If you mean in your book list, that can't be helped. Every book needs to have a responsibility (author, editor) listed, and in book lists the author roles are not shown.

lethe | 16359 comments ... Hey, it looks as if the sort order's been corrected already!
