Bill | 1596 comments Part 6

Please keep all discussion and speculation to the events of Part 6 (Chapters 50-End).

No spoiler tags required. Though it would be highly appreciated if you Uncheck Add to my Update Feed to avoid accidentally spoiling this for your good read friends.

Please do not discuss events from later chapters/books. Referring back to events from a previous section/book is fine

A few days removed I'm hard pressed to make too many comments. Then end came pretty fierce, but stopped sooner than I thought it would. Some events I was looking forward to must occur in the next book instead.

For a book called the Dragon Reborn, Rand was hardly in it. Yet I kind of think that's a good thing. On my first read I loved Perrin best at this point, but started to really like Mat.

On my second read, I enjoyed all the parts, though Mat's the best. I'm coloring his journey with my knowledge of what's to come though.

Faile is an interesting character. I had forgotten she was a Hunter for the Horn. I love how she finds out it's already been found/blown. I like how her relationship with Perrin evolves. I enjoyed the scenes with him in the blacksmith too.

Mat meanwhile is probably the least like me. He loves to gamble/take risks, whereas I'm pretty risk adverse. I think my favorite part is how he decides to break into an impregnable fortress to save the girls, takes down a high lord who is probably more skilled than himself, and then claims "I'm no bloody hero".

I also like how he complains when his efforts go unappreciated. He's not always the brightest character, but his chapters are usually a lot of fun to read. Just don't stand near him when he's got fireworks.

-----
So do we want to put The Shadow Rising on the calendar for next month, or do you want a break?

I've decided the effort to rip the CDs from the library in a way my OCD likes isn't worth the effort, so I'll be buying the rest on audible I think. I wouldn't mind spreading future books out a bit more, but so long as it's not more than 1/month I'll probably be OK. Otherwise I may have to try to get a book from library despite all the work, or delay.

Bill | 1596 comments I finished late last night and changed my rating to 5 stars. Last time I read it was 5-6 months after book 2 and I missed so much. This time I got so much more out of it and loved it. Will add all my notes for the last couple sections tonight.

Haha. I knocked it down a half star, and your reread you bumped it up 2 :)

Bill | 1596 comments I am just having a lot of fun speculating and trying to dig in the details to try to find out what ultimately happens.

I am good to start the next whenever is most convenient for you and Sumant. I almost started today after finishing another audiobook but found something else instead.

I am liking Perrin the most at this point because he is more steady. Mat is a little to wild and reckless but always good for some entertainment.

I loved how disappointed Mat was when he rescued the girls. Was really impressed with Egwene's ability to cut off the two black sisters from the source. Somehow I don't think the two will make it back to the white tower to be questioned. Wonder if two more of the black sisters will sneak away from the tower to get them back to 13.

Be interested to see if Perrin and Egwene eventually combine their skills in the dream world.

Rand manages to destroy another two of the forsaken while snatching Callandor. So with Rand taking out Be'lal and Ishamael as well as the two in the first book are the forsaken now down to 9? I was thinking they would just be replaced but it seems like these forsaken are hundreds or thousands of years old so replacing them with someone who lacks all that power and experience doesn't really make sense.

I'm about to finish my current book. But I can find another until people are ready. I think Summant just started this one.

Sumant | 522 comments Really enjoyed the last section of this book, Perrin fully accepts his powers and his section regarding the dream world rescue for Faile were really good. I am also liking Hopper he really guides Perrin in this world.

Mat continues to gamble and use his luck to the fullest, also he asking an Aiel for dance was funny.

We meet Rand in the last section of the book when he actually touches Callandor and fights dark one.

Egwene and co although being captured manage to teach the black Ajah sisters a lesson. I was a bit confused in this part because isn't Egwene cut off from the source, then how does she manage to wield the power in the world of dreams?.

I hope you guys start the next book, I am up for starting in the 2nd week of May.

At this point, I probably won't start for two weeks at the earliest. I want to finish my current trilogy first.

Buy depending on Bill, we can schedule it for next week and I'll catch up.

Bill | 1596 comments Well I am working on the same trilogy as you plus two other books so that timing probably works for me also.

I think the world of dreams is a seperate world so that is why Egwene is able to use the source but wouldn't be able to explain why.

For me more like 3rd week of May, but I can wait if Bill needs more time for his other 2 books.

There are other other audiobooks I can listen to. The next audiobook I plan to listen to on a schedule doesn't come out until late June I think.

However I've noticed Bill and I tend to be done well ahead of you Sumant, so we can always create the threads next week if you want to start sooner and maybe we'll all finish about the same time then.

Let me know what you guys think/prefer.

Sumant | 522 comments I am good for last week of May, but if you guys need more time, can you create threads for me?

For me it's all about timing. I'm going to finish my current book, then start the final book in that series.

If we shoot for the last week of May I'll probably have to either start 7-10 days early, or 7-10 days late.
