Earth Day

What: Earth Day Reading Sprint Weekend!
When: April 22nd, 23rd & 24th

Celebrate Earth Day with Reading Sprints!

How:
Casual Sprinting starts Friday ~ Pick a time, find someone to sprint with, and read! Casual Sprints may be held in the Casual Sprints thread.

Relay Sprinting will be held Saturday - Sunday (times - 8am EST - 8am EST)

But Wait! There's more...

In honor of Earth Day, we'll do our part to "save" the Earth.

Choose ONE medium. All sprints must be done with the same medium ~

1: Save the Trees ~ Digital books (ebooks) & Audiobooks ONLY
OR
2: Recycle ~ Second Hand books (library, borrowed, purchased used) ONLY

Then, Love the Earth by reading ONLY books set on the planet Earth.
No off-planet, or fantasy planets allowed.
Alternate History is allowed as long as the planet is still called Earth.

HOW TO SPRINT

1: When it's near your time to sprint, post you are around & ready to sprint!
2: During your time slot, READ the full time you've signed up for
3: When your time is over, post what you've read, and pages you've read!

Don't forget to do your part to "save" the Earth!

Choose ONE medium. All sprints must be done with the same medium ~
1: Save the Trees ~ Digital books (ebooks) & Audiobooks ONLY
OR
2: Recycle ~ Second Hand books (library, borrowed, purchased used) ONLY

Karsyn (imzadi) Less than 10 Minutes to the start of the Earth Day Sprints, and Dewey's Read-a-Thon (click here for more info from me on that!)

First up is Jenn!

I won't be around this time, like I was during Leprechaun, making sure everyone checks in. If anyone doesn't, don't worry, I'll be reading for 24 hours, taking very few breaks, so I'll be able to cover it. I know some other ladies are doing Dewey's as well, so I'm sure they can cover it too.

Have fun y'all!! Look forward to checking in when I can. If you don't see me before then, I'll check in prior to my 1pm Sprint!

message 7: by Jenn (last edited Apr 23, 2016 06:59AM) (new)

Jenn C | 51 comments Thanks Karsyn! Good luck with the Dewey's!

Good morning everyone! (Or afternoon or evening, depending on your time!).

I'm fortified with a large mug of tea, toast, and a cat or two!

I'm staring out with The Christie Curse by Victoria Abbott, of which I'm currently halfway through (page 135). I'm hoping to finish it, and maybe even start a second book! Both are library books, so I'm doing option 2 (recycled).

message 8: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Hi all! I'm starting with Seeing Red, really excited about this one. Good luck to all!

message 9: by Jenn (new)

Jenn C | 51 comments Finished The Christie Curse (150 pages) and started Cat Trick (63 pages). Not a bad way to start a morning!

Happy reading everyone!

message 10: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 23, 2016 08:59AM) (new)

Hello, I'm hopping on here for my my shift, and I'm in the middle of Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard on page 244. Hopefully I can brave through and finish it! This book is recycled from the library.

message 11: by Bobbi (new)

Bobbi (schadenfreudian) | 463 comments Checking in for my sprint. I'm recycling with Feed starting on page 130.

Jenn, Marcelina how did it go?

I just reached the climax of the plot right now, and gosh is it exciting! I'm going to keep on sprinting now!

message 14: by Kerry (new)

Kerry | 119 comments Read 38 pages from A Mother's Reckoning Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy by Sue Klebold

Plan on finishing it before my next scheduled reading so i can have something else started by then.

Yeah, that is usually how it goes.
Every time I did one of these sprints, I had to stop just 'when things started happening' so I can make update.

I just finished my book and have end of one waiting for my time to continue. I'm scared I'll read it too soon and I can't start my next book for next 12h (need to wait for challenge to start *sigh*)
Maybe I can still squeeze something short if I and up without pages.

message 16: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Glad to see everyone checking in so far!! Love hearing how it's going for y'all and knowing so many of you are reading on for today!

I'm here for my 1st sprint, starting at 1. Decided to take a quick breather and check in everywhere.

I've read almost non-stop since 8am. I had to be up for a bit messing with the dogs as the one has become aggressive with the other. The problem is my Husband! His dog is insanely jealous of my dog when my Hubby is around. When He's at work, there's no issues. When He's here, we get demon dog. SIGH!!

That took up about 20 minutes, maybe less, so with bathroom breaks, I'd say I read 4 hours total so far. YAY! :)

If I don't check back within the next 10 minutes, I'll get back to my book. I'm reading The Obsession and it's a bit longer than what I like to read for Read-a-Thons, at 464 pages. But a friend of mine is reading it today too, so I decided to start it.

I'll be picking back up at 68% (approx 315 pages). If I don't get back, see y'all just after 2. :D

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Let me know what you think of it.
Lately I'm wary of NR since I have feeling she's repeating herself.

message 18: by Bobbi (new)

Bobbi (schadenfreudian) | 463 comments Read 37 pages putting me on page 167 (27%). I'm going to finish this chapter and probably switch books.

message 19: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Why switch? You don't like it or you tend to read multiple books at the same time?

message 20: by Bobbi (new)

Bobbi (schadenfreudian) | 463 comments I read multiple books at the same time. I have ADD and found pretty early on in life that if I don't give myself a chance to start have a wandering moment, I can actually read more than if I try to read on book at a time.

message 21: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments In my case I can't decided what I'm in the mood for. Since I spend too much time here on GR, I have one book in audio ready, one is being read on tablet and another on ereader (those two gadgets are rarely in sync with books on them). Only time I'm focused on only one book is when I'm doing some team challenge and need to read something specific and there is time frame.

message 22: by Bobbi (new)

Bobbi (schadenfreudian) | 463 comments I have 7 or 8 books going at the moment. Audio can be hard for me unless the narrator is really engaging. My goal is to finish a couple of these this weekend if possible.

message 23: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Yeah, I'm also picky with audios. :)

message 24: by Amy the book-bat (new)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments I know it isn't my scheduled time, but I am listening to an audio from 1:30-?
I am hoping to finish I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings today if possible

That's ok. Karsyn said that anyone can step in her spots. She's on 24h RaT so she just filled up empty spots with her name.

message 26: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments It's my turn....
I'm (re)reading The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien *grins at Sonia*
Just started book 4 so let's say starting with page 214.

See ya in an hour! :)

message 27: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Completed my hour. :) Read from 68% to 84%, so approximately 75 pages. Good book, but Nora always is a good read. :)

Now, it's a break time. Must eat lunch! :) Will be back at 3 for a half hour sprint. :)

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm currently retreading the Nightingale by Kristen Hannah on audio and ebook both at the same time. It's one of my all time favorites and I'm currently at 80%.

message 29: by Karsyn (last edited Apr 23, 2016 11:58AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I'm here for my half hour. :) Starting at 84%. If I get too engrossed, I might not come back right at 330, but I'll try. :) See y'all again soon.

And I should mention that I've chosen "Save the Trees", all my books will be ebooks and audiobooks. Right now my book The Obsession is an ebook.

message 30: by ❀Tea❀ (last edited Apr 23, 2016 12:02PM) (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments 3 chapters done. I'm at page 262 so 48 pages read.

Forgot to say, I'm reading ebooks so trees are safe :)

message 31: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Awesome Tea! :)

Read another 7% of my book, about 33 pages. Gonna go finish it up. Be back, probably with a new book, at 4:30.

message 32: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Since we haven't heard from Kerry, I'm gonna keep reading on through until Rylie takes over at 5pm.

Finished The Obsession ~ 464 pages 4.5/5

message 33: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments Hi all! I'm here and ready to take over for my hour. I'm going to be reading
Criminal Confections by Colette London for a team challenge. Since this is a digital book, I can't exactly see what page I'm on. I'm starting with chapter 6, so hopefully I can get a few chapters read.
I'm also saving trees by reading all digital books. That's all I read anyway, so this is super easy for me. :)

message 34: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Hi Rylie! **WAVES**

So I covered Kerry's hour and my own so I read for 2 hours, minus a few minutes to come on here and post that I was still reading. :)

In my 2 hours I finished up the last 42 pages of The Obsession and started a new book ~ Jacob of which I have read 25%. It's a short one, such a contrast to the Nora book, and I read approximately 35 pages of it.

Be back in an hour. enjoy your book Rylie! :D

Karsyn (imzadi) Back for my two hour last sprints.

Continuing with the book I'm reading, starting at 52%.

See y'all in 2 hours!

message 41: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Happy readings

message 42: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments I read 6 chapters, and they're long ones, so I'd say I read a good amount. The book is really starting to pick up.

I read about 3 1/2 hours and only made it through 83 pages... but the print is so small it would be like reading another 30-40 if it was normal print... that's why I use the audio with it... lets me give my eyes a break

I'll read more after I cook and eat supper

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

Ready to charge and take my hour! Right now, I'm reading The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass as in Audible, and currently I'm on Chapter 5!

message 45: by Karsyn (last edited Apr 23, 2016 05:30PM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Finished up my two hours. Gonna take some time to eat, hopefully Marcelina will be here to start her reading. Her message wasn't there for me when I posted. GR is slow sometimes. :/

Let's see, I finished Jacob which was pretty crappy and that was another 95 pages. After I finished that, I started Don't Get Caught and have read 40% of it, approx 135 pages.

So so far for Dewey's I have finished 2 books, started another and have read 729 pages in about 11 hours of reading.

The Obsession by Nora Roberts Jacob (Kings of Guardian, #1) by Kris Michaels Don't Get Caught by Kurt Dinan

message 46: by Amy the book-bat (new)

Amy the book-bat (batkisses) | 914 comments Popping back in to read some more... I should be finished with my current book just in time to switch to something else for my scheduled hour. I feel like I am getting a lot done today and hopefully will knock some off my currently reading list before I start another book tomorrow for a challenge

message 47: by Diane L (new)

Diane L Checking in for my hour that starts at 9PM EDT.

I'll be reading from The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England: A Handbook for Visitors to the Fourteenth Century. I just started it last night and babysat all day today, so I'm only at page 22.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)
