ABANDONED. Space Science fiction about an exploding star. Events based in India

The book is about a start exploding and destroying most of the life on the planet.

The book is possibly set in two or three parts. A distant past, present and future.

Past : Centuries back, an Indian scholar in an old Indian empire finds an odd bright star in the sky. He thinks it could be an unusual solar activity. An explosion

Present: Exploding start could have hit the earth. (I don't remember much of this)

Future: We are introduced to an Indian village. Mostly starting over from dust and rubble. Post apocalyptic? There is this wise old man in the village famous with the kids. He has lived and survived an age where the world was different and it had technology and was advanced. He tries to lead the kids to a brighter future.


I remember reading this years back. Around 15 odd years. It had a hard cover. Any help in finding is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
