Tracey (trakka) | 407 comments After being wounded in the war, Nick Bassington-Hope helps the war effort by producing propaganda art, although he personally finds the war immoral and revolting. Is his performance of this work an honorable service to his country or a dishonorable betrayal of his own principles? Why?

I saw it as he did not really have a choice. He knows what fighting in battle is like and does not want to be a soldier. Yet, he does enjoy art and knows that "being in service for his country" was important to the reputation of himself and family name.

Phrynne | 607 comments He would have been trying to meet society's expectations that he would serve his country. At least this way he was doing what he was good at with his art.

Tracey (trakka) | 407 comments I think it was his way of expressing the horrors of the war and making sure that everyone was aware of it. I think it was important for people to know although very hard for people to see the truth.
